I just had a gall bladder ultrasound (not sure why). Next week is the pre-op' date=' but my doctor's office just called to postpone the surgery until 7/6. It's only a few days - but I'm disappointed.

I'm told this is outpatient - did any of you go home that day? My husband is going to be out of town - and I'll have to find a friend to take me.

Go home after the sleeve? I know my doctor has his patients stay 2 nights to monitor for any complications. I am not sure if doing this outpatient is the norm? I know I wouldn't feel comfortable going home. Everyone is different I wish you the best!

I too am about 10 days away and am wondering if I'm doing the right thing. My sister asked me if I couldn't just lose the weight doing a liquid diet... if I could I would. I'm 54 years old and have yo yo'd my whole life. All of my "numbers" are terrible' date=' I'm becoming diabetic, my joints hurt and I'm miserable. How was the surgery? How long does it take, is it painful? How long are you off work? Do you stay in the hospital. I saw the doc about 6 months ago and was denied insurance - but decided to pay for it myself. Unfortunately - I don't recall what he said. My pre-op is next week - but I thought since I have you - I'd ask![/quote']

A liquid diet Is not healthy for you.. My sister in law was on that Opti Fast stuff for about 6 months I think. Didn't eat anything. She looked awful almost anorexic. She gained all of ther weight back with 2 months and he was over 200 lbs. orignally. She became diabetic after that. I hear that most people are no longer diabetic after the sleeve.

With the sleeve there is no way that you won't lose because 85% of your stomach is removed. i am 6 months out and have never felt better. I am very close to my goal. I suffered from migranes every night before my surgery, andhaven't had a headache since. your stay will probably be 2 days. Before you leave you will have a swallow test probably to make sure no leakage. I never had any pain or nausea after surgery. I will be 62 tomorrow. Just make sure you get up and walk right away. It helps relieve the gas from the surgery. The surgery took 15 minutes, however, I had a two hour hiatal hernia repair first and then he cut the sleeve. I would do it all over again. Went from a size 18 jeans to a 6. I luv my sleeve. You will not regret it. Let yur sister read some of these posts and it will open her eyes! Good luck!

Thank you all for the positive comments. Just wondering if any of you had to pay for the surgery (my insurance denied me 3 times) - and if so, what it cost. I decided that it was worth it no matter the cost, but if you have to stay in the hospital - is that taken into consideration. also Sleeve master - wow. A size 18 - to a size 6 in 6 months! Unbelievable And you are 62 - congratulations. I am in awe. d

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
