Pie Chart Question For Mfp

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!

I was just wondering, for those of you who use My Fitness Pal on a daily basis, what percentage of your daily nutrition has been Protein? Also, I know that too much of fat and carbs are "BAD", but if those make up 2/3 of the whole day, which one is worse to have more of? I try to keep my Protein at least around 20%, but it make me cringe to see the carbs percentage. I might add that I set my calorie goal to 800 cal a day. Every time I complete my log for the day it gives me a "starvation mode" warning. :P

It depends on where you are post-op and your doctor's goals. Mine gave me an IDEAL breakdown of 70-75% Protein, 10-20% good carbs (green veggies, fruits, some grain), and 5-10% healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, almonds). If you consider there are 4 calories in every gram of Protein, and you're aiming for 70-90g of protein on say a 600-800 calorie diet (what most patients are for months 2-9), then it can be more like 45-60% depending on the day.

Twenty percent sounds too low to get adequate protein :(

That was what I was thinking. My doctor never gave me a set amount of Protein that I need to be getting. The most he said at my follow up appointment was to be eating three meals a day and limit snacking as much as possible. I feel a bit lost compared to most people here on the forum. I guess I must educate myself. I only saw the dietitian once and that was while I was still hopped up on pain meds day one in hospital, and she just gave me a gastric bypass nutritional info packet, and said to go by that. It was disheartening.

For Protein I was told that if I'm aiming for 800 calories, then 80 grams of Protein, or 700 calories, 70 grams of protein, 600 calories, 60 grams...etc...

I use MFP every day, and unless you take in about 1200 cals/day, it WILL give you the starvation warning. Just ignore it. I shoot for 800 calories.

What's worse, fat or carbs? well, depends on your body and how it works. My body thinks carbs are very bad. I quit losing if I hit a certain amount of carbs. Doc said I'm "insulin resistant" which is true for a lot of us who have turned to WLS.

on MFP I'm dooter69 if you want to add me.

I get the starvation mode warning every single day. It also tells me my calories are set way too low, but I don't care. I check my Protein by going to "home" and "daily". As long as I'm over 70g of protein, I don't worry about the other stats.

You can change your profile preferences to how ever many calories you want per day. Once you change that you won't get the starvation message.

I still get the starvation message every day even though I've changed my preferences. I wonder if there's a trick I'm missing?

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I have been wondering myself.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
