Anyone Failed With The Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Thanks DonnieJ... your story is very encouraging... I am excited to say that my surgery is scheduled for 9/Aug. Until then, I will be doing the pre op diet I suppose... It's about 7 weeks out... so, that seems like a long time without any restriction at all... But, I know it will be worth it...

God Bless...

I was thinking about this topic - we all hear the stories of the person who lives on milkshakes or whatever - extreme examples. However, it doesn't take much to stop losing/regain. I think that just returning to grazing/mild overeating will create the same problem over time and the person doing it probably feels like they are not overeating (compared to everyone around them anyway!)

Statistically, people have a partial regain after losing their initial weight - that is why the % of EWL stats go down after a few years out. Still a lot better off though.

I am one of the people who gained weight. I will be 3 years (VSG) in August. But...I stopped reading these...very motivating...message boards...stopped regular weigh ins...and just got carried away going back to old habits.

I am happy to say that I still have good restriction. I still do not drink after or during eating (partially because I physically can't)...BUT .... I never made exercise a priority and after about 18 months I started "eating around my sleeve" by eating Cookies for stress relief.

I am thankful for this board and I am getting back on board. So basically, just like everyone here has said...IF ... you follow the rules and eat correctly...you will be fine.

funfamily - Can I ask you how much weight you gained back?

@Jane... I know you have a very valid point. I am concerned because I have other medical issues, I am not able to do constant exercise... walking is good and I do go to the pool occasionally. So, I am hoping that I will be able to get where I need to be and stay very close...

I was sleeved on 12/27/11 after having the band for 8 years, I lost a total of 60 pounds in those 8 years with the band. Ive lost 70 pounds in 7 months with the sleeve. To me the sleeve is completely different, I dont have the hunger I use to have with the band and even when I do get hungry it only takes a small amout of food before Im satified. With the band it seemed like after I couldnt eat anymore I was still hungry. Not to mention the sliming, barfing and deer in the headlight feelings you have after every meal with the band. My biggest regret is not knowing about the sleeve/getting the sleeve 8 years ago!!!

I agree with you 100%. I had the stinking band for 5 years and all it caused me was misery. I never had good restriction and could eat all I wanted...but got stuck, slimed and barfed on a regular basis. My sleeve doctor said the band was not in the right place and it was way tooo big (thus the problem). I hate the band and would never recommend it for anyone. I had my sleeve 6/26 and have lost 10 lbs in 9 days! I am drinking my Water and doing my walking...walked today in the 100 degree weather today...gonna wait till it cools off to do it again!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
