Well, I guess it was bound to happen... One week out today and I just ate WAY too fast and too much. :( OUCH!!

I ate a little more than a 1/2 cup of cream of wheat, and I think I reverted to my old ways of eating and wasn't mindful of taking in a little bit at a time. Now I am super uncomfortable. I'm hoping that this horrible feeling will pass soon. I'm not sure what I can do to feel better other than wait a bit (and burp!).

So, if you are reading this and you are early out from surgery...don't forgot to eat slowly and take breaks between spoonfuls! I hope that I have learned my lesson.

Anyone have other advice? I should probably have been using a baby spoon as well (I was using a teaspoon). And, it would have been better for me to have only taken 1/4 cup to start with... Guess this process is full of trial and error...and lots of practice. :)

Keep some chewable papaya enzyme at home. That's what my Doctor recommends when you have eaten too much and have that stuck full feeling.

I think I have adult ADD because I have a hard time staying on focus when I'm eating or I've just developed a serious habit of eating too quickly over so many years. I struggled with this too. What I have done that is helping tremendously is writing. I have a journal I keep by my side and when I'm eating, I'll take a bite or 2,,write a little,,etc. It's really helped. I log events throughout the day like what I weighed, how I'm feeling, excercise, what I'm thinking,,house chores,,just whatever and it has slowed me down..finally!

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the info.

BTW, I went out an bought (ebay actually) some really awesome beautiful dessert plates and bowls that are just the perfect size. Helps me with Portion Control. Also, I will eat while on the computer and try to take mindful bites when eating. It's really difficult when eating with family. They eat so fast and such hugh portions. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
