Hello

Ok so I was sleeved 4-24-12 weight loss has been great and everything but this past week my hair has changed... Not that I'm losing it or that it's thinning... But the top part of my hair... Like the front middle has become so greasy that it feels like I put a huge glob of gel in it. I've been using the same shower products and brushes and everything for months now... So today I changed it up and use a completely different Shampoo and no conditioner. I blew my hair dry... And still sticky! It's like I pat the top of my head with my hand and my hand then becomes tacky

Getting very frustrated... Can only keep my hair in ponytail or else it looks so greasy and as if I haven't showered for days...

Any suggestions???!!! Please!!!

hairspray evenly when you blow dry? Ive had problems with my hair getting oily early throughout the day most of my life (when I was younger I mistaked a bottle of baby oil for Shampoo and used it all because it was so pretty and silky lol and my hair has never been the same) so in high school I noticed when I used hairspray it wouldn't get a oily as fast, so now I spray and brush my hair while I dry it so then it's not sticky when you are done drying if that made any sense. good luck!

The first two months my hair was really oily. I assumed it was my body getting rid of all the toxins I had presurgery. I don't know if that's right but it sounds reasonable ha. My hair doesn't get as greasy 4 mos out tho (:

It can also be your body ridding itself of surgery stuff - i.e. anesthesia. I was a haircolorist for 20+ years and it can really be a p.i.t.a. after surgery. I usually recommend mixing a coupe of table spoons of baking soda into your Shampoo to make a paste and let it sit you your hair for a bit once a week.

This is called a chelating treatment and helps scavenge the icky substances that our bodies are ridding themselves of.

Interesting. My hair is so dry and brittle I have to use coconut oil on it a few times a week. I'm hispanic and it's always been on the dry side. I agree its your body releasing junk. Make sure you're getting enough Water to help flush it out.

I use dawn ( yes dish detergent) as a Shampoo a couple of times a week because mine is so oily. If I use conditioner it gets to oily but if I don't it breaks too easily..there is no winning with my hair..however I have never tried the baking soda trick...I'm trying that today!

A lot of times we would use our "special shampoo" prior to chemical treatments on clients - this was dishwashing liquid and baking soda :) Sometimes the buildup is so much so that you need to chelate quite a bit over time - a few times a week for a month - followed by a good conditioner.

You also see the same type of buildups with chlorine and the minerals from well Water - when wet your hair feels almost gritty, and it is very easy to tangle. Ultraswim products are also good chelators. This also helps get rid of the post-surgical chemical smell if anyone still has that.

Ok this happened to me once. About a year after I got my lapband, so I have no idea if it's related to weightloss or not. I'm thinking not. With no change in hair care routine (products, hygiene, etc.) the top of my head, starting about 2" back from my hair line and in a little area like where a Yamaka would fit, my hair -- truly overnight -- got clumpy/greasy feeling. I was just sitting at work one day finger-combing through my hair and assumed I'd missed a spot when I rinsed conditioner out of my hair. So I went home, washed it, and could even feel the difference under the Water and with wet hair.

I let it be for two or three days figuring it was this or that... and when it was still there I made an appt with a dermatologist.

Between when I made the appt, and my appt was scheduled, I picked up a bottle of Neutrogena clarifying Shampoo and truly scrubbed that part of my hair. I also washed it with Dawn dishwashing detergent. My hair was dry as heck, but it completely took care of the weird spot. I cancelled the dermatologist appt so I have no idea what he would have said.

So from my experience, I suggest try a combination of clarifying shampoo and a grease cutting dish soap. Wash once with the dish soap, then again with the clarifier. Don't wash like just suds up, but use your fingertips to really get in and scrub/massage your hair AND scalp. Do not condition and do not use any hair products (my hair was long back then so I did the sloppy ponytail knot thing for a few days). I'm guessing it will improve within a day or two.

My best guess is that it's some kind of build-up. How it just came on all of a sudden when I'd been using the same products/routines for years, I have no idea. This happened to me about 5 years ago and has not happened again.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
