Breakfast Troubles

Recommended Posts

Hey there. I'm currently going through this exciting process. Had my orientation beginning of June. During that the dietitcian said to start changing some habits now.

I wanted to changed my Breakfast but I'm stumped on what to eat or considered healthy.

My normal Breakfast would usually be 2 cinnamon ego waffles, slice of cheese, glass of milk, or sometimes a cup of coffee.

Any suggestions or example of what you all are eating pre-op would be helpful. Thanks!

Pre-op breakfast.... how about a Protein Shake with a yogurt, or an egg with cheese possibly with bacon or sausage, your goal is to eat plenty of Protein throughout the day and get your daily intake of three servings of dairy products. I am post op but now is a good time to learn these healthy helpful guidelines which will help you in your journey after the surgery... Good luck

You could do oatmeal (not from the instant packets), light yogurt or even start working on Protein Shakes and what they are like.

My typical breakfast, post sleeve, is 1 egg and 1 sausage patty, or a Premier Protein bar (30g of protein). Sometimes I'll have a yogurt, but I'm lactose intolerant, so that's a very rare day for me.

I am still preop, but I will have either a Protein Shake or a Greek yogurt for breakfast.

postop - I'm usually drinking a Protein Shake. It's easy, filling, and a good way to start the day with 30 grams of Protein.< /p>

I have an egg each morning, with a Jimmy Dean turkey sausage link, 2 oz. of cottage cheese, and about 2 oz. of red grapefruit sections from the jar with its juice. sometimes instead of the eggs, I will have some no sugar added brown sugar oatmeal just for a change but not very often. i do not eat my whole egg though. Eat the sausage first, then part of the egg, then the cheese, then the grapefruit. Start getting the carbs out of your diet. You will need to concentrate on Protein first post op and you won't be able to eat that much.

Carbmaster Yogurt and a couple slices of turkey bacon. Or my typically breakfast is a Protein Shake, then maybe a yogurt a little later in the morning. A scrambled egg is a good option too!

Every morning I have an egg (but don't eat the whole thing) a Jimmy Dean turkey sauage link (JD is the best tasting), 2 oz. cottage cheese, and about 2 oz. of red grapefruit sections from the jar. Sometimes I have a no sugar added quaker instant oatmeal instead of the egg. depending on what we had for dinner the night before, I may eat some of the meat from that instead of the sausage.

Ahh... Breakfast. I am not sure if you are low-carbing or not. Many pre-op (and post op) patients either have to or choose to do so. My best recommendation, drop your preconceived notions about what a breakfast food is. Why not have chicken at breakfast time, or deli meats, or turkey meatballs.

You can also do greek yogurt (plain, flavor it yourself with sugar free syrups, crystal light packets, espresso powder, splenda, etc), omelets, bacon (go turkey if you are worried about fat), Protein shakes, etc.

Plain Greek Yogurt flavored with dry Jello crystals .... or .... 1 Poached egg and Johnsonville maple flavored sausage links (2-3) ....or.... 1 egg scrambled with grated cheese.

These are things i eat post-op .... I ate the same pre-op, just more of it...lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
