Airline Security

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever wondered if Terrorists get any ideas from the movies about how to hijack commercial airliners? Well, when it comes to "Snakes on a Plane" you needn't worry, because the writer, producer and director did not bother to hire anyone for technical information.

As an aircraft mechanic who worked on 747's for over 25 years, I can tell you that any terrorist who makes his plans based on what he sees in this movie will be spending the rest of his life in prison. I suspect, that not much money was spent on technical research on snakes either, but I am not scholarly enough on that topic to state a firm case.

They only did two things right in the movie.

One: when the 747's landing gear came down just prior to landing, it was the right type landing gear for the type aircraft.

Two: the movie ended!!!

Awww, come on, it couldnt be that bad could it"?

I was hoping for a new B level movie that I could watch.

However, I cant watch a medical show with out going, "thats wrong, thats wrong, Dr's dont do that"

that's ok, I have yet to see a movie that gets biometrics right, or anything to do with computer security for that matter...

TOM, my dad was an air craft mechanic too, and I always enjoyed it when he'd take me back to his shop. Being an airline brat I can usually spot the errors when it comes to planes too... :(

I knew the movie was going to be bad, when a snake shorted some wires and the pilot said to the co-pilot, "we just lost all avionics. Call the ground and tell them" which the co-pilot then did.

Avionics consists of all the Aviantion Electronics an airplane. I guess they used a radio that sent smoke signals, though I though most aircraft radios were electronic. They also used most of the other avionics equipment later during the movie including the auto-pilot.

If a pilot were to go down a hatch in the cockpit floor of most types of commercial aircraft, he would wind up in the lower (belly) part of the airplane, usually the avionics compartment. But on a 747, the cockpit is on an upper deck, above the main level passenger seats. Not this 747. When the pilot goes through the hatch he winds up in the avionics bay skipping totally the passenger compartment.

Let me not bore you with any more details.

Everything is none for effect. My wife wanted to see it after it got two thumbs up. I think the thumbs were up, but I can't say where.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
