I had a two week post-op appointment with my surgeon and he cleared me for any type of exercise. I would give them a call if you didn't get this appointment.

I would make sure your incisions were healed. I would say 3-4 weeks would be more like it, but again, check with your surgeon's office.

I felt the same but no swimming yet, I was told 6 weeks too. I also wasnt released to exercise ( strenuous) till after my 2 month appt so I wouldnt over-do it.

My surgeon said 2-3 weeks for swimming - whenever my incisions were healed. He just said it to do anything strenuous in the pool for a few weeks.

My surgeon told me if I wanted "pretty scars" to wait a full 6 weeks, but if I didn't care I could bathe as soon as two weeks (as long as the surgical tape had fallen off already). However, that was just "lounging around lazily" in the pool type thing, NOT for exercise. His advice on that? "If it hurts, don't do it". Of course, you should ALWAYS double check with your surgeon to see what he/she says.

I"m glad to hear you are doing so well!!

Was anyone offered the "less" procedure? I had my sleeve done entirely thru my belly button. Absolute no scars, staples or drainage bags. My surgeon is a genius. He said not that many doctors are offering it but if you get the chance, please do it. It sped up my healing process dramatically and I was off pain meds by end of day two. Google Dr. Lutfi on YouTube and check around to see the procedure. I thought it was a bit more common but I keep reading about all the concerns of scarring. Anyone else have it this way?

Chicagochic, you'll probably want to start your own thread to get some answers to your question.

Sammy, to answer your question, did you double-check your paperwork to see if it says in there? I've got a huge binder-full of paper and I keep forgetting what all is in there! Otherwise, best bet would be to call your doc's office and ask a nurse. Every surgeon seems to be a little different, most w/their own good reasons so best bet is to call the office. I would love to go sit in a pool right now!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
