I had my VST 2 years ago and it is the best thing I could ever have done for myself!!

I lost 130 pounds and while I should lose more, I am fairly happy with how I look and best of all, I can RUN!!

One of the first things you notice as you lose weight is you move freer! It is like someone squirted WD40 in you and it is just EASY to get around!

(Now, even over weight, I was fairly active. No, I didn't exercise, but I was not a complete couch potato either.

The funniest thing was when the heart specialist had me do a tread mill test pre-surgery and he couldn't believe that at 330 pounds I was able to do as well as I did!)

But losing weight made it EASIER! I had no idea how much easier!! I hadn't thought it was a problem until the weight was off!!

I never had a lick of trouble with the surgery. All went extremely smooth.

I will say I was calm and cool right until the very last hour or so before surgery. THEN I started to panic!! So I told them and they gave me a little something........Don't be ashamed to ask!! Why put yourself through that?

I think the most irritating thing is when they wake you up from that lovely drug induced dream after the surgery...sheesh! LOL!

My advice is follow the after diet and do not start eating sugars!! Once you start "cheating" it is pretty dang hard to get back on the wagon!! So just don't!!

Find a good gym after you have recuperated a bit (a couple of months for me) and start some classes.Yoga is very fun and there are beginner classes and if you have a good instructor they can help modify some of the moves. Just get up and move!!

Don't be afraid!!

Good luck!

I go into my class with the surgeon on the 13th and my surgery is June 26th. I guess what I'm nervous about is that I'm going to cheat on my per-op diet cause I will be smelling the food, plus I have a couple of parties that I have been invited to also during my pre-op diet. I'm trying right now just a test on drinking 2 meals and eat 1 during the week while I'm at work. So far I'm not doing to bad.

I think another thing I'm nervous about is how I'm going to feel after the surgery and how hard it is going to eat just my liquids. I do a lot of reading on this site (which has answered allot of my questions), but I know that everyone is different.

This site is the best I've seen for not only information, but for support too. I'm glad that my husband found this and told me about it.

I guess what I'm nervous about is that I'm going to cheat on my per-op diet cause I will be smelling the food, plus I have a couple of parties that I have been invited to also during my pre-op diet.

I had that same fear and had in my mind that everything would not only smell good, but smell even better than it had before. Fortunately, it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be but I'm also blessed with some very considerate co-workers who have made sure not to bring any of their hot lunches around me.

On a slightly different note, during my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet I noticed exactly how many commercials are on TV for food - there are a ton of them, and most of it isn't good for you. It's no wonder so many people are overweight.

I moved into a new house the day I started my 10 day pre op diet. That kept me real busy right up till surgery. Costly way to keep your mind off of surgery though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
