Post-Op Cravings And Discouraged!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am still pre-op, so I don't know what it feels like yet. I just wanted to comment that the idea of Clear Liquids initially post-op makes sense to me. But my nutritionist's instructions were to start soft, mushy food when I get home. I will be allowed yogurt, FF ricotta, even oatmeal. I was told I must have my Protein Shakes, although for the first week, I was advised to make them with Water instead of milk. I'm a bit scared of these instructions because I can't imagine having even ricotta the first week. In any case, I was not instructed to do clears after surgery (after I get home).

I myself have never heard of this. Your stomach needs time to heal and to prevent leaks, I would think your doctor would want you on clear liquid for atleast a week! That's what my doctor ordered anyway!

I am now exactly 3 weeks post op. I am still trying to figure out how I can keep this up for 5 more weeks! I want some chicken or rice or something w/ substance. This is tough especially when I have stalled for a week now, no movement on the scale at all. It really scares me!

I have read from so many of you that this happens to a lot of u, but am still terrified I'm not gonna lose this weight! I am discouraged w the variety some patients have with foods that I do not. Uggggg! Venting helps a little, but darn it, I want some substantial food!

how are you hungry after this surgery. the pouch is so small and you get full fast. try drinking your 2 oz of Water so youcan feel full

some people don't have liquid restriction like it just slides through..i experiences that and I'm at fourteen days out the only liquid that fills me is watermelon juice..so drinking Water may not help at all

This is the toughest part of the journey, IMO. After you're back on solids, it will all seem like a dream and like it wasn't that big a deal, but it's huge when you're going through it. For the need to chew, I suggest ice or SF popsicles (let it melt in your mouth after chewing). Also, if your doc hasn't got you on an acid reducer, ask him or her about it. It really helps with the head hunger.

My first mushie was refried Beans and they were AMAZING! :) Two bites and I was done, but they tasted wonderful! :)

Good luck! I know it's tought, but it will be worth it. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
