My dr put me on Byetta today. He said that it will help me lose weight while I am waiting on my insurance to pull their heads out of their anus. Has anyone else used this before? They said that it will make me nauseous for a few weeks but that it's normal.

I was put on Byetta with my oral meds. for diabetes it did seem to help with the hunger issue but it did not help my diabetes I had to start insulin in the evenings. I have a friend who said it helped her diabetes prob. but she is still overweight. On a happier note since I was sleeved Jan. 20th I don't have to take any diabetic meds Yeah!!

I currently take 100 units of Humalog 3x a day, 120 units of Levamir once a day, 10mg of Glucophage once a day and now the Byetta twice a day. Here's hoping that it will work a little :-)

Wow! you must feel like a pin cushion I have been type 2 diabetic for over 15yrs. and each year seems like I was taking more and more meds. My brother lost a leg to it and that was what encourgaged me to get the surgery I also have high blood pressure which I still take a low dose pill. I wish I had the courage to do this surgery when I was younger. It is such a nice feeling to be free of all the meds. Good luck to you!

I'm so thankful that I'm getting surgery next month - while I'm in great physical shape so that I don't get diabetes @ 650 pounds, and as much sugar as I eat--my pancreas can only hold out for so many years...it's gotta be a matter of time. My wife just found out she was diabetic, so I really feel for your situation. Hope you have great results with the sleeve -and can get off your meds eventually.

Hi, I don't have diabetes, but my husband does. He was only slightly overweight, maybe 20 pounds at most, but his oral meds needed a boost, he needed to get his A1C number below 7, so the doc put him on the byetta shots. He has NO appetite. He eats cause I yell at him to eat :), he says I am just not hungry. How come *I* can't get me some of that stuff...

At any rate, his weight came down as did his A1C numbers, so everyone is happy, 'cept me I caught what he lost. Oh well, is always the case.

I was on Byetta a few years ago (pre-diabetic; high insulin) and I did lose weight but only b/c it made me horribly nauseated! I stayed on it for about 2 months and was so sick the entire time. Finally had to give up on it and rely on Metformin.

Along came Victoza and it's a miracle drug! No nausea. :)

I had to take nausea pills with the byetta or I would throw up. I lost weight on it but was miserable.

I used Byetta for 1 1/2 years for my diabetes and the weight loss came along with it. For me as time went on I got severely nauseated to the extent I had to stop. I was told this was not the norm. I lost 40 lb. My husband takes it now and in the past couple years has shed 85 lb and holding, Definitly if you are diabetic take it. Its a lot better than being on insulin,

No nausea yet and I have gained 2 pounds, but my sugar is getting lower :-) Would rather have the weight loss though. Maybe when I go up to the 10 unit dose. Right now I am still on the 5 unit dose.

You will lose weight I promise but it will be slow. Pretty soon you will not be hungry. I used to take it before dinner and could only take a few bites and I was full. It was almost like they explain the feeling of stomach surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
