Think I Got My First Case Of Dumping!

Recommended Posts

And yes I am excited about it!! LOL

I had one small small bite of cinnamon coffee cake.... Within 20 mins had a little visit with the potty and now my tumbly's a little unsettled feeling.

I am happy cuz I was really hoping something's would upset my stomach after surgery. I feel like its just a little something extra to help me control myself.

My body does not like straight sugar or high fat foods any more. I ate half a cookie on mothers day and had was in the bathroom all that day and half of the next. Now when I see the really sweet stuff, I don't have a desire like I used to. I know it will make me sick (it doesn't really taste as good either does it??).

I could be wrong, but what comes out of you today has more to do with what you ate 24 hours earlier. It takes about that long from the time you eat something until the time it comes out of you. Sometimes it takes even longer.

However, dumping syndrome is from your stomach to your intestines (not what comes out of you) and can create a feeling of nausea, dizziness, heart pounding, etc., but it is not suppose to occur with sleeve patients. I think it happens with gastric bypass though.

You are partly correct, yes, your body does take time to process the foods that you eat, however as a defense mechanism if your body detects toxins, very possible that it would identify refined sugars as such (especially after not having them for a while), your body will attempt to flush the toxins from your system quickly to avoid absorbing them.

I've experienced dumping in the past, related to stress and I can tell you that you can pass everything in your digestive tract very quickly. Sometime I was certain that I had eliminated things I hadn't eaten yet. :)

Yeah it does take time to process..... But think about food poisoning.. That doesn't wait 24 hrs

:-P

Don't wanna do this again. Abdominal pains and diahrea isn't a good way to spend Sunday... Especially when u have to go back to work on Monday!!

I'm 4 weeks out and def have dumping. I actually hoped for it. I didn't recognize it right away. It happened a couple of times but I learnt my lesson. My hubby even said stop touching the same hot stove!!! It's a process.

It may not technically be called dumping, however, the body gets used to not having the high quantities of fat and sugar. Eventually, you could readjust your body to handle it, but why would you want to do that? Also, anyone who has had food poisoning, gluten intolerance, or other food allergies knows that it does not necessarily take 24 hours for your system to react. The 24 hour rule is for food that your body does not have an adverse reaction to. Diarrhea is the body trying to get rid of toxins. If it took a day that would negate the purpose.

Ha. I should have read the posts below before posting. Sorry for the redundancy.

I thought I was having dumping today after a fruit smoothies I made. I got so dizzy, nausea, hot and sweaty. But I had another hunch and went and took my blood pressure, 90/61. I was bottoming out, drank some Water, laid down and put my feet up and started to feel better once I got up over 105/64. This may be a good sign that blood pressure meds are on the way out or adjusted. It was high this morning before meds, but maybe now that I lost almost 20 pounds post op I may need to come down on dose. Yay!

We, as sleevers, do not experience dumping. But I completely understand the thrill of pooping! Bm's are few and far between for us

We as sleevers most definitely DO experience dumping. I have done it many times. I asked Dr. Aceves about it and he said it's because our stomachs are so small, that too much sugar or fat (or combination of both) will get into our systems much too quickly.

It's not just diarhhea. It's sweating, feeling nauseous, and rapid heart beat. The diarrhea comes last.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
