Yeah it takes a good while to get anywhere where we live out in the country, but I wouldn't trade it for city life! I love my little Texas town :)

I haven't seen my psychologist yet, and I'm a lil worried. Nothing has really happened in my past but I have noticed I'm a stress and bored eater. I want this surgery so bad and I'm afraid I'm going to say something that will make her deny me . I'm glad you said to be honest with your phsyc because I have searched to find out what kind of questions they would be asking. Yours is the only thread about it. Please let us know your results and I will post as soon as I see my phsyc. Thank you for your information.

When I went in for my eval the first thing she told me was that it wasn't her job to decide if I should have the surgery, but rather come up with a plan to address my mental health needs through the process. That made me relax and I was totally honest, also. She said that if she thought there was a need that she would recommend follow-up sessions and/or mandatory support groups before and after surgery. I came away with a recommendation that I be given information before and after surgery about how to contact a therapist and support groups and that this information be on my discharge papers. That was it...just made sure I have it handy if I need it. I will also say that I have a pretty dramatic background, also. You know I think the "stupid" ones are the ones that lie to the psychologist. This isn't a magic fix and I do not want to go through all of this and not succeed because I didn't have the support or resources to handle the mental aspect of it all.

Thank you, I feel better about seeing my psychologist. I truly didn't know what they were going to ask. I have finished everything on my list except the physiologist, one more visit with nut, and final consultation with surgeon. I was told by the nut that I would have to take a test per the surgeon and make a 90 or above. I was told I had to do this to be sure I read and listened and understood everything that I would be going through with the sleeve. Does anyone else have to take a test?

Doc pretty much asked questions about my life. Family, friendships, work, etc. The eval test at over 500 questions asked really seemingly meaningless questions but worked pretty well. During the follow up he said questions like do u like yellow mean nothing to me but through history they determine people that like yellow feel a certain way. So pretty much it has a consistancy score to make sure you don't lie as some questions are obvious. For example in the report he put i dont need support groups. They have a normal range on like 15 factors. Wish I had copy of report btw. Said the ones slightly out of norm are that i am sexually compulsive. Given that i have over 200 sex partners the test hit that on head and i didn't talk sex in interview, also that i am lazy, he said that is normal for overwieght population, also said I deal with stress poorly ( get pissed off and walk away often). Can't remember what other factors there were but those were the only that i was outside the norm somewhat. He said on a 0 to 100 scale of mental stabilty with 50 as median i am a 62. Also compared results with typical wieght loss paients and doing surgury was average or good in every catergory. (more self confidence was only one I remeber) Although I have a positive self image, I run around think im hot then get pissed off when i see myself in mirror and find out im not so the test must have missed that. not sure if all are simialr but for what it cost better cover lots :)

Gotcha.

I meant no disrespect. Sounds like you took it in the playful way it was meant :D

Also, I hadn't done the math...

Good luck with the dr.

That's your past. It does not define your future. No one has the right 2 judge u on your past. We all have skeletons in our closest. You will be able to help a lot of other young ladies one day. You don't have 2 explain yourself 2 anybody.

I was sleeved Tuesday. Boy was it painful. Im still in the hospital.

Good luck

Stay strong

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
