Hi, I'm New Here :) Just Got A Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Samantha and i'm getting my sleeve july 30th. I am shocked at what an amazing source of information this forum is and am excited to be part of it.

My biggest issue right now is the pre-op Protein shakes, what was your favorite? I tried Bariatric Advantage so far and i couldn't finish it, it was gross. :(

There is a post about ordering samples, highly suggest it, my tastes have changed a lot. Post-op I made Jello with Isopure worked to get my Protein in. Couldn't pay me to drink one now! You will find what works for you. I now heat up Premier choc and I can drink that.

I am pre-op, too... and I enjoy the Isopure NoCarb vanilla and LowCarb chocolate. The Cookies and cream was too sweet for me. I've also tried the Unjury powders. They were fine, but I like IsoPure better, for now...

Hi and Welcome! This is a great community and people here are very helpful and genuine in their efforts to educate the newly sleeved and those who are contemplating sleeve. I know you'll enjoy getting to know more about VSG.

I was sleeved just 4 months ago. I used to drink Optifast in my pre-op diet. Dont like the vanilla flavor, but I think the chocolate is okay. I like the Vanilla better with a half tsp of coffee blended with cold milk. I dont take the Protein shakes with Water -- I always use cold milk. I used Optifast because it was a more balanced Meal Replacement for me and it had 19 to 20g Protein in one serving (46g).

Wishing you a safe surgery, speedy recovery and awesome weight loss!!! :)

I don't like the Protein Shakes that I bought either. My friend kept telling me to mix w/ milk instead of Water and add in fruit or yogurt. I don't want to defeat the purpose so I want to stick w/ mixing w/ plain water. I did find a trick, though. If I add in a Tbls of sugar free/fat free pudding, it is doable. There are 4 servings in the pudding mix and it is 25 calories per serving. I think 1 Tbls is less than 1 serving. Even at an additional 25 calories, it is worth it. It also kills the horrible smell. I just added banana cream to my vanilla shake for lunch and it was so much better.

Welcome! I would suggest ordering samples from a variety of manufacturers and see what you like best. As mentioned above, there is a great thread (think it's in the Nutrition section) that lists sites you can order samples from. For me, I can't stand any of the RTD (bought six different kinds from the Vitamin Shoppe and took three back!). Right now, I like the About Time Protein powder. They use very few ingredients and don't have a lot of filler like some of the others. They're sweetened with Stevia, so it's nice to have a natural sweetener.

Do keep in mind that it seems that tastes can change post-op, so don't buy a six months' supply of anything. And you might want to try Isopure fruit flavored drinks for some variety. They're too strong for me but I dilute them with a bit of Water and they're not bad. Good luck!

Two things have recently changed my life.

1. Deciding to have this surgery (and then actually having it).

2. Finding this forum.

I just ordered free samples from Chike Nutrition. They send a full serving sized packet of each of their 5 flavors. You just pay shipping.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
