First Big Emotional Test Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Today, I am 5 weeks post op. This morning my parents had to make the tough decision to put down our family dog that was 13. I live 5.5 hours from home (as I have for 6 years) so the last I saw him was at Easter. I used to turn to comfort food when I am sad but knew that was not an option at 5 weeks out and needed to replace the desire for ice cream with something else. So, I went to Wendys and ordered just a cheeseburger, which I haven't had since before surgery (I really wanted a Frosty), and didnt eat any of the bun. Just having the cheeseburger felt like comfort food but was actually good for me with high Protein and low carbs!!

Today helped reassure me I can do this and find alternatives when I'm feeling down.

So sorry for your loss. It's great that you can turn your grief into a (sorta) positive thing. Thanks for sharing and hugs!

That sucks... I am sorry for your loss. That's really hard. But kudo's on making an educated decision to help fill that hole. :-)

I am so sorry on having to put down your best friend.... unfortunately I had to do that while in college with my "childhood" dog that was 14 years young... and my current "kiddo" of almost 11 years is in liver failure so I don't have much time left with her. Hugs and prayers your way.

Way to go on not giving into your addiction!! I know how strong that urge is to give into the addiction and I also know how awesome it feels once you "get over the hump" and make the HEALTHY decision even when the bad choices are right in front of you and available!! sounds like you got this girl!! Sorry to hear about your dog. Sometimes I think about one of my cats dying and start bawling at the thought. Good job on making a sensible choice given your craving!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
