Almost two weeks out and very sad and depressed. I hate the way I'm feeling and I'm not the type of person to feel sorry for herself. Physically I couldn't ask to be any better, mentally i am a basket case !!

I went through the exact same thing about almost 3 weeks out. You are not alone! It was a hard time, but rest assured it gets better very soon.

I can relate. I think we all go through it. This is a huge change and we are out of our comfort zone. It was easy to grab a box of Cookies, sit on the couch and watch a movie. That was what we are used to, but now we can't do that. It is really hard to adjust, but it really does get better. Hang in there and know we are here for ya :)

It wouldn't hurt to talk to a professional. However, you should know that when you lose massive amounts of weight at one time, hormones trapped in the adipose tissue that is dissolving randomly begin to release in your blood. This can last for the entire weight loss period but is worse in the beginning when you are losing quickly. If you find yourself not able to do or enjoy normal activity for 3 weeks or more, get some help.

Hi Ladyarwenrose,

Have you or are you going to have a psych eval as part of your pre-surgical requirements? Your manic depression would be something that you will probably want to discuss with the psychologist who does that with you so that you are prepared for any kind of depression that may result. Good luck and I hope that you don't experience any ill effects!

Same here, I think the stress of the surgery, lingering effects of the anesthesia, massive caloric shortfall, rapid weight loss and system kicking into ketosis ALL conspire to throw our metabolism - and therefore our mental state - into a tizzy.

I second the suggestion of seeking out a professional, as well as a good friend that you can just sit down and have a good cry, or two or three with too.

I wish you the best, you WILL get over it, but expect bouts of it from time to time as your body adjusts. Good luck girl.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
