Hello everyone!!

I am just starting the process for my sleeve. Not looking forward to the 7 month wait, but atleast it will give me the chance to be totally prepared. I also look forward to all the things I will learn from each one of you in this forum.

Hello! Welcome! I use Dr. Miles from the same group. You will find them both to be very capable doctors. I am in limbo waiting for a band to sleeve revision. I have insurance approval to remove the band due to leakage and gastritis, but they are not wanted to replace with the sleeve. Hopefully I will have an answer from BCBSAL soon.

The 7-month wait is frustrating, but you will find that it goes by quicker than you think it will. Just follow all of the doc's directions.

Thanks. I actually wanted to have the band when I went to the seminar, but after listening to all the presentation I decided on the sleeve instead. Plus alot of people at the support group meeting had to have their band converted to a sleeve or bypass. Dr. Schmitt is so nice. I haven't met Dr. Miles yet.

I don't know what the percentage of band to sleeve revisions are, but I agree that your choice to start with a sleeve is best. As for the seminars, usually, whichever doc does the program is who you sign up for. They are both good.

I haven't been to the support group in several months. Mainly because of my band issues. I didn't feel I would be a good spokesperson until I get resolution....band out, change to sleeve, etc. I am going to call my insurance again this afternoon to check on the status of the revision. I never have been a patient camper.

Hi Jazzy,

Welcome. I am new here too. I just found this site a few days ago. I get my sleeve on Tues May 29th. I also had a 7 month wait but I was glad of that. Gave me a lot of time to decide which procedure to go with, and to quit smoking too. I am nervous but excited at the same time. I am ready to do this! This site by far has been the most helpful to me. Very glad I found it. I feel much more at ease about my choice.

Hi Jazzy. I am a Gadsden girl who had my sleeve done by Dr. schmitt on March 19. Dr. Miles checked on me and followed up with me as well. I have had no problems at all and am down 37 pounds. I believe that having either of these doctors gives you such a great base for having a good sleeve experience. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Good luck!!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
