Dull Ache On Right Side Of Abdomen

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone has had this same type of situation or had any idea what is causing this problem:

Lately I have been noticing that when I sit up (especially when driving), I get this pain on the right side of my abdomen. The pain occurs a few inches below my breast. I don't really know how to describe the pain...it isn't stabbing pain, but more of like a deep dull ache. I know it isn't muscles healing or whatever because I talked to my doctor and he said my muscles should be completely fine now (I am almost 3 months out). What I find weird about the whole thing is that if I push my fingers where the pain is or if I lay down, the pain goes away within maybe 20 seconds. It is just kind of frustrating. Just wanted to make sure you guys didn't have this problem and then find out it was something serious.

Gallbladder is a good thing to check out. Also liver - I used to get liver pains there (this was before surgery, though). I don't know why it would go away when you push it in.

Are they going to do any sort of imaging to check it out?

I do still have my gallbladder. The doctor didn't seem worried because he said if it was my gallbladder I would be in much more pain. I am not having any tests done because the doctor seems to think that if i know how to make the pain go away and it isn't really severe, then it can't be much of an issue. I also have no clue why the pain goes away when I press on the area.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
