Hi all,

So I just kinda needed to vent. I've struggled with depression/anxiety for as long as I can remember (I'm on Pristiq). I KNOW when I am experiencing the "usual" depressed or anxious moments. This is different, much different. I am going from being elated over this whole experience to confused and hopeless. The awesome moments are more often than the lows, but I must say, the lows come out of nowhere sometime. Earlier I was on Cloud 9 and then within 30 minutes I was confused, crying, and frustrated. This is really out of character of me to "flip a switch" like this. I know my body is still probably in "shock mode" but it's still disheartening I guess. There will be better days and there will be bad days, but these mood swings are intense. Any thoughts as to if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong? I sure am trying my dangdest (if that's a word lol). :)

Hi there...

It seems to be normal. I'm having the same issues. I was in a deep funk all night tonight when I sort of suddenly realized that I just didn't feel well. Seems sort of silly in retrospect that I didn't know I wasn't feeling well, I mean, I should know my own body, right?? But once I identified that I was actually feeling nauseous, made some tea, walked around and burped about 100x, I actually felt better mentally...

Anyway, I'm no expert because here I am right here with you, but maybe it would help to try to chase down the feeling or thought that sent you into a tailspin. Might not be what you think it is, or you might have tried to shove the feeling away before you even let yourself feel it. And now that we can't eat to cover it up, we're just stuck feeling lousy!

You are totally "normal" .... What you are experiencing is hormonal.

From what I understand, your body has lost the weight but in such a short period of time that your brain and hormones haven't had time to catch up. So you are making hormones for the size that you were 50 lbs ago. Additionally, it might be time to call the dr. or go see them (whomever prescribed the Pristiq) and adjust the medication based on your now smaller size.

Hang in there. You are going through a LOT of changes and it takes time to adjust. We all have our moments, but then that's why I am here - that's when I reach out like you did. Hope this note helps you some.... hugs

Christinarose, I had experiences similar to yours. I had very dramatic, extreme mood swings. It began to taper off by 5-6 weeks and I would say totally gone by 7 weeks post op. I wish I woud have been more aware of what was going on....I said some things to people that I shouldn't have...

Thank you all for the encouraging comments and helpful tips...I absolutely think it's a combo of things (especially hormonal junk!). THank you ladies for lifting my spirits and giving me hope to keep going. :)

Another quick question, have you all experienced any nausea with chewable bariatric Vitamins. I tried to take mine and ran to vomit about 10 min later. (i haven't thrown up at all this whole experience, but I have been nauseated here and there).

Thankfully no, that's not applicable to me (nausea with chewable bariatric vitamins). I've tossed the proverbial Cookies twice - both I believe from eating too fast. Bad habits die hard :( I like the citrate chewables for Calcium (about $10 at walmart) and spectravite chewables from cvs (i don't remember the cost, sorry) for my Multivitamin.

Hang in there mama! U r rocking - 48 lbs. gone... awesome! hugs

It is normal to some, not others. I don't want to over step my bounds or anything but with wls, you may need a meds adjustment. Have you had any bi-polar tests done? That could put you on different meds as well. I hope it works out

Thanks for the feedback! No worries, you did't overstep anything, I appreciate the suggestion for sure! I have been tested but I'm not bipolar. I will definitely mention something about adjusting meds if I'm finding this to be a reoccurring type deal. Come to find out, I had miscalculated my cycle and I started like the day after I posted this haha SO PMS was probably just magnified because I am feeling pretty great now.

Hope you're having a good week!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
