To Those A Year Out Or More

Recommended Posts

How is your restriction compared to around the sixth month mark? I have had what I would consider the perfect amount of restriction since about month two, and am pleased with my weight loss so far (still not at goal, but didn't expect to be at this point).

Still, my greatest worry is stomach stretching. My surgeon said I would have close to my permanent stomach size at 3 months, and most certainly at 6 months. I am at 5 months now, and again, couldn't be happier with the stomach size. If it stayed like this forever, this would be one of the best things to happen to me.

So, reassure me or give me a reality check. Is the stomach gonna get larger over time, or will it stay about where it was at the sixth month or so mark forever?

Thanks for your advice!

I just had surgery, so I don't know first hand. However, from what I've been told and seen on this site in other threads, it can never stretch back to where it was before surgery. It can stretch some, but not much. Personally, I don't plan to test it to see how much it can hold. I'm just going to follow my diet plan. No matter how much it can stretch, you'll never be able to eat 6+ pieces of pizza again like before surgery! Supposedly the part they remove is the most stretchy part, which is part of the reason it won't stretch much.

Very good question I'll have to research. Are you still consuming lots of Water and Protein?

But it would ne interesting to see how much more the volume is at a year out.

I am 16 months post-op. I don't know how much larger my stomach is because I don't try to eat until I'm full. My portion sizes have stayed the same since I reached a normal BMI in November--for example I eat 3 oz of beef, seafood, fish or 1 egg. For liquidy stuff like yogurt and cottage cheese, I eat 1/2 cup. For veg, I serve myself 1/4 cup. I am satisfied with this amount and don't feel the need to eat any more.

Oilsooner,

I am 22 mths out and I can a very similar amount to what I could at 8mths or so... perhaps a lil more if I tried, but like Foxbins, I don't try. My typical meal will weight - yes, I occasionally weigh my food to stay on track - between 6-8oz depending on the type of food it is.

So to answer your question... you are nearly at you max restriction, and by the sounds of it, that is a good place for you!

Congrats on a jpb well done to date!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
