Did Anyone Self Pay In The Us?

Recommended Posts

Why won't insurance cover the sleeve for all of you? Just because you don't meet the BMI and such? After seeing how expensive it is. I feel so blessed. My insurance covered my surgery 100%

My insurance has an exclusion on bariatric surgery, they will not cover it no matter what BMI or comorvidities. I went to Mexico w/ dr. Ponce de leon, he has so much experience! I loved my experience and would definetly do it again! It cost me less than $6000 total, I flew alone and had an amazing coordinator who was always there for me as well as met other great new sleeve sisters/brother. I was going to have my surgery here in Texas for about $13000, but after all of my research specially on difference in experience level of surgeons, I am glad I went to Mexico!

I am self pay 14,000. Includes everthing and post-op for one year. My insurance does cover it but you have to have atleast 5 years of medical proof that you have been obese and while i have been, i have NO proof. I would rather get my surgery done now than jump through the hoops and waist time only to get denied, I am so ready to get this done and change my life now-no more waiting!

I paid around $14,000 in KC, MO. Mine includes everything and 3months of insurance for complications.

My insurance covers it but I am on the lower side of BMI and did not meet all criteria. My heart was set on it so I did not want to jump through hoops and take a chance of being denied. So glad I went with it. Best 14,000 I have spent and I am only 5 weeks post op!

I came across this site which gives you United States self pay prices for different bariatric surgery centers. I am considering going to Tijuana because I live in San Diego or if not Tijuana then Texas.

I was self pay with Dr. Kim in Dallas. I don't regret a single penny. Cost was not the issue for me. I'm not rich, but i would have paid more if I had to. I wanted the best surgeon I could find within a certain radius.

Phoenixrise I live in Texas and I went to Tijuana to Dr. Ponce De Leon! I would do it again in a heart beat. Not only is he cheaper but has a lot more experience than most surgeons in the USA. I posted my surgery on YouTube if you are interested in watching it! Good luck in your journey!

Hi! I am in Alabama. Because of my reflux history, my surgeon decided to do a EGD. I have a hiatal hernia, which will knock down my original price from 13,000 to 7500! Insurance is picking up the rest.

$18,000...must be because I am in DC. They all wanted like $25k for bypass. This area is so expensive. It got $15,900 from care credit. 0% interest for 18 months. I only owe $6000. Every extra penny I have goes to pay for this surgery. Even all the plastic surgeons out here are expensive.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
