No weight loss for me this week. Exercised only twice. Just got busy I guess and have out of town guests for the week. The rain doesn't help either. I've gone running in it but the lightening is a little worrisome. Still at 190 pounds. Still glad I did it this way!!!

No weight loss this week. I am going in for another fill tomorrow. I am really wondering.. If you could put into words what it feels like to be restricted what would you say. I can eat almost anything I want. not in the morning but later on in the day. bread is starting to mess me up. I get that pain that comes when you don't chew enough and feel stuck. lasts about 2-3 minutes and then I can eat another bite. but what does restriction feel like? am I getting it? I know I am a late bloomer but remember I didn't get a fill until the end of Dec. I would appreciate it if you all could let me know how you feel. what do I tell them at the docs tomorrow? restricted ? not restricted? thanks everyone for helping.

sandranoelle: I think if I could answer that question I could make a million dollars. It is a tough one. We're all doing this for the first time and learning as we go. I have had several fills and the first week or two I have decent restriction and then not much of anything. By decent restriction, I mean that I am not terribly hungry and I can't eat quickly or too much. After that restricted feeling wears off (after 1 or 2 weeks), I get hungry and think about food all the time and seem to lose ground and can even gain some.

The dietician told me today that she thinks I still don't have enough restriction. I'm just hardly losing any weight. I still get too hungry. I've had to slow down a little, but I can still eat too much at each meal.

I learned that when you first get a fill there is probably some swelling and that explains why you feel more restricted at first. Once the swelling goes down, you get the munchies and start eating too much.

The bottom line is that I still haven't reached that "sweet spot" everyone talks about. That is where you don't obsess about food, you don't get hungry unless you wait too long to eat (4 hours or more) and you have to eat very slowly and are satisfied with much less food at each meal.

Your doctor's office should have some key questions to ask you that tells them if you are restricted enough. If they are cautious with their fills, like my doc, there's not a very big chance that you will get overfilled.

Time for my monthly update. Once I hit the 260 mark I didn't lose any weight for about a month. I knew I needed a fill and with school starting back up I was having trouble finding time to exercise.

I decided to give myself the month of Febuary to take a break from worrying about weight loss and I just maintained. I managed to fluctuate between 259-262 and ended up exactly where I started when the month came to an end.

The March refocus started with an appointment on 3/1 to get a fill. However, my 2yr old daughter got a bad virus and ended up in the hospital with dehydration so I pushed my fill off to 3/8. I was real nervous going to the dr. for my first fill but it was very quick and easy.

This looks to be a big month for me. I've lost 6lbs since my fill on 3/8. I'm 4lbs from reaching the 100lbs lost plataeu. This morning I was able to move to wearing size 40 pants and 1X shirts. That's down from size 50 pants and 4X shirts.

My wife is now going through the process of getting approved and will soon join me on this journey.

Sandranoelle, I have had 4 fills and went to the doctor the other day fo another one. He is kind of disappointed in my weight loss as I have only lost about 22-24 pounds since my surgery. He asked me how I was eating. When I described to him what I was doing which is exactly what you said, he told me to stop eating at that point, don't wait for it to pass and continue eating, or to even spit up to relieve the pain. That should be my full point, my stopping point for that meal and not to eat any more. He said the pain will subside and that stuck feeling will pass. But he told me he thinks I am pushing it (eating) too much for my poush and that is why I am not losing like I should. He also told me that my mainstay should be Protein and to try my substancial foods and not so mushy foods so it will stay in my pouch longer and my fullness would last longer. I am so worried that (I am a self pay) my fills will be used up before I get to the sweet spot if you will. I have 2.2 cc's in my band now.

Just a little info to forward to anyone.

Sorry to seem vain, but I've noticed my stats have been wrong for the last few weeks regardless of my attempts to correct them.

Hey there finallyonmyway!

The start weight is the weight posted at the start of this challenge not the start of our band journey. Like my starting weight was 261 day of surgery not 199 but it was 199 at the start of this challenge. Was your starting weight 230 at the beginning of the challenge?

42lbs is fantastic, congratulations!!!

Mim

Has anyone thought about what the next challenge should be? The next few holidays we have coming up are Easter (4/8 - kind of close), Memorial day (5/28) and then The 4th of July.

Any ideas?

Oh, let's shoot for July 4. That's 15 weeks. How about 25 (or goal!) by July 4?

Some of you were talking about restriction. For me, a good level of restriction is when I can drink liquids when I wake up without feeling them gurgle down, I can eat Breakfast and solid foods throughout the day, but I'm satisfied by eating 1 to 1.5 c. of food per meal. I generally don't think about food during the day, but I might get hungry before meal time and have a small snack. Recently I've been having that stuck feeling more often, but I really don't think it's the fill level. I find the further out I get from a fill, the more I slack off on the "small bites/eat slowly" rules. I think I can get away with a big ol' bite, but I pay for it. But, there's no way I'd just stop eating at that point, because that usually happens on the first bite or two.

I'm heading to Cancun on Sunday, so I probably won't be checking in for the next week or so. I've promised myself that I'll drink my Water, exercise, and keep a food journal. I'm hoping I can keep my weight where it is now (185, down 3 this week).

Mim, your surgery is next week, isn't it? Best wishes for a good surgical experience and a quick recovery.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Tami

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
