Good to hear Bec is safely on the sleeved side.

Cath' date=' I hope the doctors tests have come back ok...

mzbkt, it is definitely stressful pre-op,being so concerned about what life after surgery is like, am I making the right decision. But you are best off giving yourself the best opportunity for a healthy and quick recovery.

I had my first plastics consult today. It was interesting but I am not sure about the surgeon. Seems to be a paint by numbers kind of doctor which I am not sure I am happy with. Also need to see how much, if any is covered by my health fund.

He did say that he would expect that he would remove between 7-9kgs of skin, excess fat etc. Also that there is really not much more for my body to loose and it is ready for it to be gone. I would get a Tummy Tuck with some Lipo on my hips to even out, and arm lift with some upper body toning (no bra fat lumps).

This would be almost a 6 hour procedure, depending on my cover anywhere between (15 - 27k..yikes). Tho I think I will look at another surgeon and see if I feel more comfortable, I felt this way with the first doctor I saw for wls and then found my surgeon who I felt comfortable in his hands...ya know...and this is my forever body.[/quote']

Expensive isn't it? I would certainly get another quote and I will be really curious about whether your private health fund covers any of it. I suspect it won't except perhaps the hospital costs, but hope it's more. I will likely look at surgery to remove skin from upper arms and also thighs if I can afford it, but will wait at least a year.

Have you looked at going to Bangkok ? My best friend went there and had breast lift and reduction, lipo to her outer thighs , tummy tuck and thigh lift all for $13000. Yahnee international hospital , her dr was professor of cosmetic surgery ( taught all the American ones ) and was brilliant . I've seen her scars and they are fantastic . She also said while she was there two nurses from Sydney hospital were there and having surgery ,they told her they looked into it and there was no reason why you should go over there . She was on the operating table for 10 hours which is the max .

I can get more details if your interested ! :)

Guys I have just recently started the Mandy Inger yogalosophy DVD- it is brilliant!! Perfect for winter when I can't get out but more importantly it's a lovely but challenging workout. I can barely do a quarter (& I am not sure I will be able to walk tomorrow lol) but I highly recommend it. Best $15 I ever spent!

Linky, thanks for the info.I am always concerned about going overseas for surgery for some reason, especially travelling so many hours back after surgery (albeit a good few days later). But will have a look into it.

I have spoken with my health provider and it looks like the hospital will be covered, which means the cost would be closer to $15k and I may get some more of that also rebated. It is still alot of money but could definitely help my head actually see the change s that have occured. I have also made an appointment with another plastic surgeon to see if I get a better vibe about her.

No worries , I will be heading over to Bangkok if need be after I'm sleeved and weight comes off . She went through surgery getaways in Qld And Catherine was brilliant. She was in Bangkok for 2 weeks on her own and had no problems . In Australia her surgery was going to cost approx $35000

I am now wondering if all the posts I have read about the problem of losing the last 10 or so kilos after a sleeve is actually about carrying the weight of the loose skin rather than true body fat.

Lessismore, you could be right, I can only speak for myself and the last 3-5kgs that I have not been able to shift seems to be that.

Hi everyone ...After feeling really crappy the last few weeks because of putting on weight since my band removal 7 weeks ago I decided to ring my Dr and see if he would do my surgery any earlier. We originally planned a 10 week wait but that fell in the Qld school holidays and he does not operate during this period so his first week back was the full 12 weeks. I asked him if he would consider the week before the holidays (9 weeks gap) and thankfully he said YES!!! Now my date has moved from the 9th July to the 18th June and I am over the moon. I cant wait to get back to my 23 BMI that I sat at for years before my band decided enough is enough. So only 1 more week of struggling before 1 week of Optifast commences and my new journey begins. VERY EXCITED!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
