Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hit the 40kg loss mark yesterday. Very excited as its only 4 1/2 months out. I have lost less than that before and it's taken be over 12 months.

Just brings me closer to my goal, I now have less to lose than what I have lost, hope that make sense. Only 35kg to go.

Heading out tony work Xmas party this Saturday, am so looking forward to it. Might even get in some photos. Considering the photo I found of myself last year was absolutely horrid.

One Elle, I'm having my band out and hopefully sleeved at the same time on 15 January. I saw the anaesthetist today and he was very nice but gave me some worse case scenarios re nausea and vomiting for the first day or so. After the appt his receptionist said "that will be $900". ($150 for today's consult and $750 for the gap). I reminded her my surgery was not for 5 weeks so she just accepted my consult payment today. I felt like she thought I was a cheapskate not paying it all today. Oh well, not my problem lol.

Kelliv I have a plain black simple dress that I can wear with a short sleeve cardigan (no sleeveless for me...maybe next year). That will have to do.

Aussie Kelloff, your weight loss is sensational in such a short time. You are truly inspirational.

Hi kelliv, I am having a Bypass for a couple of reasons: I have had 2 x Lapbands which have slipped and I am having the second one removed in 2 days time. I have also had my Gallbladder removed during that time. I injured my back and both shoulders at work and I have had reconstructive surgery to my foot and today I was told that I have acute arthritis in that foot which I can hardly stand on at the moment, so exercise is going to be difficult post op. My Surgeon and I discussed my options and he feels that when he does the WLS it will be the 4th stomach operation that I have had, this means that I have a much higher risk of developing Scar tissue around my stomach, I need to lose at least 50kg and his statistics show that a Bypass should be more successful than a sleeve, he believes that if I have a 'sleeve' he will have to revise it in 2 years so he recommended doing a Bypass as the first option, I have a complicated medical history which includes lung clots last year and I am 57. So, after weighing up all the pro's and con's we decided that I would have a Bypass. I really like this forum and there doesn't seem to be a similar one for 'Bypassers' so I hang out in here. Hope you don't mind???? You all have amazing stories and insight into WLS and I have learnt a lot from this forum.

Kate, I am amazed that the anaesthetist's staff didn't insist on you paying the 'out of pocket' costs today, you're very lucky.

I would prefer to be having only one procedure but my Surgeon won't do the Bypass that way, so it's two surgeries for me. I am getting excited now because it's only 2 x sleeps until my Band is gone forever.

Hi aussie kelloff, you are an inspiration!!!!! In a perfect world I probably need to lose as much as you, but with my history of two failed Bands I have set my goal a lot lower and would be happy with losing 50 kg and anything more will be a bonus! But I am open to changing the goalposts if I can be as successful as you have been.

Well Done!!!!!!!!!!!!! keep up the good work.!!!!!

One Elle, am sorry to hear of your medical woes but while a loss of 50 kgs won't cure you of any of these, just imagine the difference it will make. I can see why you're so excited. A young girl I know of 24 had the sleeve 4 months ago and has lost nearly 30 kgs. This is like she was always carrying around a full suitcase and hand luggage prior to the loss. I need to lose at lease two full suitcases lol. It's no wonder we get tired and our bodies ache with this excess baggage we carry around with us all the time. A few years back I lost 40kgs on the Cohen programme and I felt amazing without the extra weight. Of course I counld'nt maintain it and backup square one. I will be thinking of you on Thursday.

Hey guys im going to take a hiatus from this forum for a while, i love reading all the success stories and am so happy for those who are well on their way to being sleeved.

I'm to be honest feeling a bit sorry for myself at the moment as everything has been so up in the air for me. My first consult was Oct 16th and I am no closer to knowing whats going on, by the time I even get sleeved (if i ever do) it wont be until now March next year.

I wont leave you all hanging though, I will pop in and tell you what my surgeons decision either way.

I hope you all have a Merry Xmas and enjoy your new years! Take care xxx

Hi one elle, wow you have been through the wringer. I am sure you have done your research and your surgeon knows what is best to recommend to you. My surgeon doesn't do bypasses anymore. As I am sleeved I don't know much about bypass, but I have read that you may need more nutritional supplements afterwards. You are very welcome to check into this forum any time even if it's just for emotional support. Good luck for your band removal tomorrow.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
