I am about 6 weeks and still find it extremely difficult to eat food. It's not that it doesn't go down ok, but I have no desire to eat and nothing really tastes good. Never in my life did I think food wouldn't taste good...lol. Just curious if this is a phase or does your taste buds really change and you don't enjoy things that use to. I am really struggling to get in my protein...I can only get about 40 grams in right now.

I get my Protein in in one shake a day. I bought amplified wheybolic extreme 60. I get the chocolate and to me it tastes like chocolate milk even mixed with Water. I get it at GNC and it has 60g of protein in it. My motivation for getting it all in is my constant fear of losing my hair. Lolol that is always on the forefront of my mind. I don't have much of an appetite but I eat to keep my metabolism running higher.

Hi Smileygirl. I just came on here to post almost the same exact comment you had. I was sleeved on 3/26 and when I was just before and just after a month out, food tasted good...but it seems like the past week - two weeks nothing tastes good to me. I still get hungry - but as soon as I sit down to eat something, I have no appetite for it and if I do eat it, it doesn't taste good. I get about 3 bites in before I'm done.

I use the Oh Yeah! Protein Shakes. I have one in the morning for Breakfast and try to supplement the rest of the Protein in with fish or chicken. I think I am getting about 50-60 grams of protein in a day. Make sure you try your hardest to get the amount in because it can prevent your hair falling out, which I have heard usually happens around month 3. Do you use protein shakes at all?

The three scoops make up the 60g of Protein. If you have the GNC card, you can get a canister for about $45 and it lasts over a month. I believe you can mix it with milk. I never have because dairy slows my progress down.

Also you can mix 1.5 scoops at a time. You just have to cut down the liquid to 6oz instead of 12oz. I do the whole 12oz because it also counts as 12oz of liquids that you need to drink. :)

I usually drink half in the morning after my workout and then the other half in the evening if I don't get in all my Protein through eating. I just put it in the fridge and let it get real cold for the evening. Or I drink the rest as a snack.< /p>

I just found the Oh Yeah Protein shakes. They are so good.

I get the Oh Yeah! Protein Shakes already made in bottles. A case of them (12 shakes) is $40 @ GNC, but sometimes you can find places that will have them cheaper. A physician assisted weight loss clinic that is in my town has the case for $35...they can be expensive, but it replaces 1-2 meals a day for me...so I just look at it like that :)

My desire to eat is weird. It comes and goes, but it's more a mental thing then physical.

I was sleeved on Jan 3, and I have no appetite, either. I start each morning with an Atkins coffee shake and try to supplement my Protein with chicken, fish, cheese, and beef throughout the day. But nothing tastes good. Right this moment, I am struggling to get through a half cup of homemade chicken salad....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
