First Time Eating Out...

Recommended Posts

And I felt OK about it! I was really worried because of the temptation of all the food on the table .. But i really didn't feel tempted!! :) I ordered lobster bisque (I'm 11 days post op) ate some and wrapped up the rest... I must admit it felt good to sit at a restaurant. My husband who is THE MoST SUPPORTIVE person EVER kept asking me if I was ok, and even reminded me a few times to take it easy (the Soup was sooo good and I expressed to him that I didn't want to overdo it)

I know it's not much, but I'm glad I got this part of my journey behind me .. And now I know that every time I go to a restaurant I have to recognize my weaknesses, face them, and move on.

I didn't know we could have a lobster bisque. I am very proud of you. Can I ask how much protien was in it?

Probably very little - I'm sipping on an extra Protein shake right now to make up for it :)

It's NOT so bad, is it MamaT? I went to a steak house with my hubby, sis and bro-in-law. They had amazing looking ribs and steak and I had Soup. And while it all looked and smelled awesome, I was just happy to be able to eat out, order something off the menu, leave full/content and just enjoy the night! :-D

I was 4 wks PO and I went to a Cajun restaurant and had seafood gumbo no rice no shrimp just juice. Very little crab meat. That was the best tasting thing ever.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
