"mexicans Kidnap Americans. There Is A War There"

Recommended Posts

Unless you plan on getting involved with the Mexican drug cartel or buy illegal drugs, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

We were there in January and felt totally safe. The areas you'll be in are full of tourists and they want to protect the tourists because we are a huge part of their economy. Use common sense in Mexico just like here in the US. There are neighborhoods in my little town I wouldn't walk around at night.

I get so mad at people who talk about stuff they don't know anything about. Hearsay and gossip!

Any time anyone, not just Americans, travel to a foreign country you need to be aware of your surroundings and cautious.

Good luck with your surgery. Relax it will all be okay.

There is as much violent crime or more in most major U.S. cities than in Tijuana. The media reports what sells. Is there crime in Mexico, sure there is but I have never felt uneasy there. If you are in an area doing things you should not be doing, it can be dangerous, just like Dallas or any other city. If you want dangerous, watch your local news with all the home invasions, car-jackings, drug violence and other murders.

In fairness to the person that you quoted, there are statistics that show serious crimes higher in Tijuana than most US cities (albeit the ones I saw were from a couple yrs ago) so I don't want it to seem like that person was totally off base. I looked online and 2 or 3 years ago things were at a all time high and there were some higher serious crime rates at least that is what I saw in researching. That being said, I believe things have stabilized in the last few years and as long as people are aware to be careful just like if this small town girl went to Miami or Detroit I would be super careful because I am not used to thinking that way...... people that live there know what neighborhoods to avoid and where it's safe to go alone or after dark.

Not sure why my comment ruffled the feathers that it did. We're all inteligent adults here and I think it would be downright irresponsible not to fairly consider BOTH sides of the coin. Chances are that nothing will happen but that doesn't erase the fact that their is indeed a war going on there nor eliminate the chance that something very well could happen. Anyone wishing to travel abroad would be a fool not to consider the current climate of sentiments towards Americans of wherever their destination of travel may be.

I've told a couple relatives who have told me something similar that I would go to~ LA not Compton. There was quite a few places in the US I wouldn't go to either, but I'm not worred about Tj. Noone who has gave me all the warnings has ever been to Mexico or directly knew someone that the murder or kidnapping has happened to. I'm trusting I will be safe from all the positives I've read online from people that have been.

The fact is there is about 17 in 100,000 violent crimes in Tijuana. I guess I should have said crime is worse in MANY not Most U.S. cities. The point is the media does not report all the murders in

El Paso or San Diego the way they do in Juarez or Tijuana. I spend time in Tijuana and I feel as safe there as anywhere. I hate when they use the words drug cartel, we have drug cartel's here in the states too, we call them gangs. They get their money from DRUGS. If people use a little common sense, they will have no issues in Mexico or any other country.

I live in Auckland New Zealand and there's places down here I wouldn't go at night - and I'm a tuff cookie!

I went to Mazatlan 2 years ago and stayed in a Riu, one year later a young woman (20's) was brutally attacked in an elevator - by a random passer by! At no time did I feel unsafe in a 5 star resort ... You can't wrap yourself in a bubble and be safe from the world ... Ill be in TJ in May! Can't wait ????

I went to TJ 2 months ago to buy drugs and go to the clubs. The worst thing that happened to me was that locals pretended to be my friend so I would buy them drinks, I fIgured out they were using me so I ran away lol. Also once you get out of the area where the clubs and street vendors are it can get scary at 3 am. Since you wont be doing any of this you will be just fine. Best tip is to avoid drinking much Fluid before you head back as the line to go back is really long and light on restrooms. I think the crime is closer to the El Paso border.

'There is as much violent crime or more in most major U.S. cities than in Tijuana.'

I reread this, I think people read this backwards. This says TJ is safe.

So this was in the news this morning it happen in the city of Anaheim where DISNEYLAND is. Does that mean everyone should stop coming? No, but it does mean everyone should use caution whenever traveling.

By the way for those wondering, the officers is ok he was missed, and they did catch the suspect and "gently" took him in

I think you will be fine. My father was very concerned about this as well, but I went and had my surgery with Dr. Aceves and my mom came as my companion. Not once were we terrified to be outside. Stay in at night and you will be just fine.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
