Sleeve And Thyroid Issues

Recommended Posts

Are there any sleever out there with thyroid issues? I had discovered a goiter on my thyroid last year but specialist said all tests were fine. But I just had my first check up post op and my primary slipped in a TSH test and my results were .33 which is a bit hyper. He wants me to see another specialist but Im afraid of being put on meds. Dont they all make you gain weight? Then the sleeve will have been for nothing. Isnt it true once you start thyroid meds you have to take them for the rest of your life?? I dont even like taking asprin! Any advise out there?

I can tell you I have thyroid issues. I had mine removed almost 5 years ago. My TSH runs between .2 and .5. My doc says everything is fine. But I will tell you that she doesn't listen to the test results. Instead she listens to how I'm feeling and what I'm experiencing.

The only time that you would have to take thyroid medicine for the rest of your life is if you don't have one like me or your's does not function at all. I would see a really good endocrinologist and see how they treat Thyroid Disease. Don't put off having it looked at, as we can't survive without a functioning Thyroid. (Sometimes I feel like it is the brains of the whole body operation, at least that is how you feel)

Something else that you may want to think about....my endo told me at my first visit post sleeve that she noticed a huge difference in my TSH numbers. My body was absorbing my meds far better because of the reduced fat in my diet.

I'm not sure of my numbers, but 3 months after my sleeve, my thyroid meds were lowered. I was on 175 Synthroid and it's now 150...

I have hypothyroidism also. My understanding is that when ur hypo it slows down ur system and you gain weigh but when its hyper u loose weigh but the meds dont make u gain weigh. I dont know u might wanna ask ur specialist more about it.

I'm hypo too. I need to get mine checked but I'm 3 mos post op and feel ok. I've been a slow loser for years which I attribute to my hypothyroid.

I am hypo as well, and I've lost 65 pounds in 4 months , it hasn't slowed my loss at all like I thought it would, and they lowered my synthroid to .75 from 100.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
