I retract that 1200 cal statement. Depends on what food stage you are at. I can't see full liquids coming close to that so pls consult your dr. My apologies on having said that!

Is it possible your building up muscle weight?

I have a feeling you're losing lots of inches and not lots of pounds. Do you have more than 100 lbs to lose? They say the less you need to lose the slower it'll take.

Don't be discouraged. You're doing everything right. Be patient! :-)

You can't build muscle by walking or any aerobic exercise. You can tone the muscle you have. In addition if your not getting in your dietary Protein your body will consume muscle for energy while exercising when the stores of glycogen have been depleted from the liver. Have you ever seen distance runners? They are all skinny with no muscle.That's why we need to consume large amounts of protein to keep the body from using muscle for energy. Most weight stalls occur from the body holding on to Water. You still losing the fat but your retaining water. Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon a 1/2 gallon of water could easilly be retained in a person who is overweight without them noticing.

I am 16 days post op and have stalled as well... I've fluctuated between 303 and 306 for 10 days BUT..... I'm not worried... The weight will come off! I am been active as well and have lost inches versus lbs. I feel fantastic!! I would be lying if I didn't say I wish I had lost more but I never wanted rapid weight loss. I want to try and keep my skin as tight as possible!

I feel the same way. I figure I am still losing faster than I did before. I am down to 305 today so I will see if it keeps going in that direction or if I follow your pattern. I go see my doc today for the first time post-op. When I talked to his staff person she was like "Oh... we cant WAIT to see you and how you are doing!!" Well, I just hope they are not too disappointed in my weight loss. Like they are expecting some huge 20+ pound loss, becasue that is not going to be the case. I am almost dreading going :(

I am, however, anxious to get some of my questions answered like when can I go back and do my Zumba class and when can I go back and start walking in the pool again, etc. I also want to know when I can start to swallow small pills. I have been off once of my meds now since surgery - can't crush or chew it and I really want to get back on it. I have fibromyalgia and I HATE taking narcs for pain, so I also want to know when I can start swallowing tylenol again. I tried the liquid childrens tylenol and about threw up after one dose. It is way to sweet tasting, so that is no option.

Thanks for sharing your weight loss pattern. Makes me feel a whole lot better and I am with you. Maybe we won't have all the hair loss issues either. I am also pretty vigilent about trying to work in some veggies and fruits. I know I need to get in all this Protein, but I also want to try and have balanced eating as this is my long term goal, not just weight loss. I want to eat balanced, healthy meals. I know that if I do this in smaller portions and exercise, then the weight loss will follow. It is just nice not to feel hunger all the time and to be able to eat a smaller meal and feel truly satisfied. Take care and have a great day.

Misty, Only eating 3 times a day? Nope. I eat at least 5 times a day, but a meal may be a slice of cheese and a slice if deli meat with some pickles rolled up in it.

I couldn't agree more. Eating a small amount every 3 to 5 hours is MUCH better for your metabolism than eating 3 times a day. My NUT says 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day and that adds up to every couple of hours. You don't want to start grazing on unhealthy foods, but every thin athlete I know eats almost constantly. Their metabolism is super high because even though they always seem to have food in their hand, it is veggies or fruit or tuna etc. If your body thinks for even a second that you aren't going to feed it, it will hold every calorie it can and not let it go.

I am also post sleeve and have lost 12 pounds! I am walking about. 30 minutes a day, but my loss occurred in the first week and a half and I have not lost another pound since! I am concerned as well?!? But hoping this will start changing soon! Trying to be optimistic and patient! If it is a stall how long can it last?

I had surgery 2 weeks ago and have only lost 8 or 9 lbs. I thought I would lose more. I have been trying my hardest and exercising. Hopefully the weight loss picks up soon.

I had surgery two weeks ago, as well. I have lost 26 pounds. I can't explain why I have lost more than those sleeved on the same day. I know a lot of my weight loss is fluids. I was VERY swollen and puffy before and right after surgery. My highest weight was 200, my post surgery weight was 198.2 and I weigh 174.2 this morning, exactly two weeks post op. I am drinking a lot of diet gatorade, Premier Protein shakes, Jello, popsicles and I have recently added cream Soups, mashed potatoes and pureed broiled fish. Going to try an egg today to see how I tolerate it. I have been off work since the surgery and I go back on Monday, November 30th. I have not done any exercise except for walking around my yard. One thing I have definitely noticed from BP and the support group I am in...EVERYONE's journey is different and everyone is following different physician orders. Try not to compare yourself to others. This is your personal journey! We are ALL going to be successful. Happy Thanksgiving!

Please remove the word "only" from your vocabulary. You are doing fine. You just had major surgery and are healing.

Also, comparing yourself to other people is not helpful. We all lose at different rates and at different times.

Just a heads up. We all experience stalls throughout the process. Almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks post-surgery.

Just follow your surgeon's plan. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise when cleared (walking is great post-surgery).

I am four weeks post-op yesterday and I only lost 1 pound this past week. I was losing 5-6 pounds the last couple of weeks, so this was a downer. All together, I have lost 22 pounds so I keep thinking positive and hopefully I'll get over this hump. :)

Please remove the word "only" from your vocabulary. You lost one pound this week. Yeah! Even if you lost nothing or gained a pound this week you are on the right track.

Stalls and slow downs are not "humps" to get over. They are part of the process. Most people experience their first one three weeks after surgery, if you plan to lose a significant amount of weight, then you will experience stalls and slow weight loss periodically.

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. It is more like a stair-step pattern if you were to draw a graph.

Follow your surgeon's program. Just focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise.

I am glad I happened upon this thread because I was also feeling that my weight loss has been slow since surgery 1.5 weeks ago.

I 100% believe I am WAY TOO LOW on calories as I am hovering around 250-400 calories a day. How many calories should I be striving for?

I just answered this in another post.

What you need to focus on is getting in all of your Protein and fluids. If you do so, your calories should fall into place.

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
