Is there an alternative to Protein Shakes? This is disgusting. I have this required doctor Bariatric Advantage stuff, is that the problem? I started a week early. Thank God, my wife brought me chicken broth. Help me!

I never had what u had but when I was pre op I used Isopure bottles(green apple and alpine punch were ok). They aren't the best but they were clear Protein. Since im a week post op and on full liquids I got chocolate and vanilla Premier Protein shakes from costco and they are pretty good

What is the difference between a smoothie and shake? We have put every fruit possible in it and thank god for strawberries. We put ice in it, but still nasty.

I also think Protein shakes suck. If you can't stomach the Bariatric Advantage, maybe you could ask your surgeon if you could try something else.

If not... I found that some shakes were more tolerable if I froze them and ate them that way. Experiment as much as you can (within the requirements of your diet). As for adding fruit - I like to sometimes add frozen fruit (rather than fresh) to give the shakes a more shake-like consistency.

Really, though, I can't stand most Protein Shakes. My favorite Protein supplement nowdays is hot chocolate! BariWise makes a yummy one - just 80 calories and 15 grams of protein. I think WonderSlim makes one too, but I haven't tried it yet. I seriously just tastes like good hot chocolate - no protein taste at all (that I can detect). They are kind of expensive and you have to buy them online, but I love them!

Good luck! Things get so much easier once you can get your protein primarily from "real food" sources! Hang in there...

I guess I'm a bit different. I don't mind the shakes at all. I've been experimenting to see what I liked (even though I know your tastes can change after surgery.) I actually prefer the powders over the RTD, simply because those have a chemical taste to me. The only thing I don't like are the tar balls of Protein if you don't shake it up within an inch of its life.

smoothies are much thicker than the shakes; they mix better and I add all kinds of stuff to them to make the smoothies taste good. Since I am pre-op, my favorite is vanilla with honey and cinnamin. I hate the rtd, they are awful.

You could also use them to make pudding - gets your Protein and Calcium in.

I haven't tried the plain Protein Powder yet.

I just remembered...I love the chocolate with raspberries or strawberries.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
