Lying In Bed 24 Hrs Post Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I have the most pain I have ever had, worst when I breath in. Had to be put back to NBM this am as I'm continuously retching which hurts so bad! and I vomited black stuff! Nursing staff really tried to push me yesterday, one of them even told me I couldn't have IV paracetamol as it was too expensive, needless to say my husband wasn't impressed as we self funded! I feel awful! Did any one find it tough breathing when they were in pain? X

This sounds really scary. What is NBM? Where did you have your surgery? Are you feeling better tonight? I hope you are doing better and a lot less pain. CONGRATS on your new journey. ;)

I think you should call your doctor. Usually black bile is an indication of blood. Please let us know how you are doing.

I have been nil by mouth all day and feeling a lot better now, the doctor has just been to get some bloods, no more vomiting or retching, just trying to deep breath and cough with the towel pressed against my chest for support, The surgeon has just been in and said I have to be nil by mouth for 2 days, just incase when I was retching and vomiting I have I inflammed the sleeve, so I'm on IV fluids. But a lot less tired, just gonna take it easy, thanks for everyone's support x x

At 48 hrs out I feel so much better, sleeping in my own bed and not awakened so much for vitals, or beeping IV poles, etc. I am getting down the one ounce cups of Water and Protein Drink more easily today. Yesterday even little sips too often made me gag....decrease of swelling at beginning of sleeve is probably what making it easier to get down liquid, which hopefully will help avoid dehydration!

Any update, Bellatrix? I hope you are feeling much better by now. I brought up a load of dark brown foamy stuff and blood when in the recovery room (all over the poor nurse's arm - he was remarkably sweet about it!) and then some clear acid on day 2, but nothing since.

You also need to talk to your surgeon about painkillers. Even if you are a private patient in an NHS hospital, they can't be rationing painkillers and if you're in a private hospital, well... . Your surgeon needs to lay down the law!

Do let us know how you are.

Just wanna go home! The care here is not good I complained to the sister today, no one offered me a shower I had to ask my husband to wash my bottom cos I couldn't reach, oh the shame what 26 yr old wants to ask that! I buzzed for painkillers and had to wait over an hour, what they don't know is I myself am a nurse so iI am going to complain cannot believe I've paid ten thousand for this!

In the uk, it's mad, no one checked my dressings today I had to ask for them to be checked and waterproofed so I can get in the shower in the morning! I'm about to press my buzzer again for more pain killers!

Hope you are able to get out soon. I did have pain with breathing the first 2-3 days but would take the pain meds. Keep using your Incentive sparomiter.

Hi, Bellatrix! So glad to hear that you are OK to be discharged. Let's hope all this will soon be little more than a bad memory. Best of luck with your recovery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
