I've seen lots of posts where people have driven themselves home! I think I'm on the FAR END of the continuum of doctors playing it safe, I couldn't drive until after my first post-op appointment (8 days post surgery). I'm sure others will have stories of driving much, much sooner than that! ;-D

My doctor said to drive when I was "ready" and not taking pain meds. I drove the Sunday after my surgery, which was on a Tuesday.

My surgery was on Monday (April 16), and when I was released from the hospital on Thursday morning, I drove the 5 hours home to Tucson. It was doable, but man was I tired and cranky when I got home.

In summary: doable, but YMMV.

I had surgery Tuesday morning and drove myself home Wednesday night. I quit taking pain meds in the hospital at about 9pm Tuesday night, but I have an unnatural fear of narcotics.

I don't remember how long it was before I drove (I don't drive very often anyhow), but I just had to post and say that "gibby" is my husband's nickname, and our dog's name. :)

My hubby drove me home from surgery, but I was driving after about three days. Wasn't a problem.

Really, I was amazed at how fast you rebound from surgery initially. Then the healing is long, but that's OK.

Onward,

Carol

I'm with you and the fear of narcotics. I have not been sleeved yet, but after my c-section I took pain meds for 2 days and was okay. I was driving the week after out of necessity. I had an underweight newborn and she had to go in for weight checks.

Oh, and Lissa, my daughter is Alyssa and I call her Lyssa. <3

I was told not to drive for two weeks but I drove after the first week of surgery. I was fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
