Chocolate Addiction....

Recommended Posts

Over the last couple of months I have gradually got myself in a really bad rut. I have been eating chocolate and alot of the times substituting my meals with it. I have my wedding in 25 days and have lost total control of myself. I have put on a couple of kgs and feel terrible.

5 days ago I went and had a chat with my pharmacist about it and he gave me some chromium piccinate to help me through....welll for the first time in as long as I can remember I have gone 4 full days without chocolate.

Is anyone else game to admit how much chocolate they eat?

Also, can anyone give me some substitues for chocolate...I am trying really hard and I will do this....or should I just not substitute it for anything and go cold turkey on all the crap??

I cant believe I would ever get to the stage that giving up chocolate would be as hard as giving up smoking...sigh.

You are not alone. I was where you are several years ago. I began drinking sugar free hot chocolate (around 70 calories) if I had the "CRAZIES". It was just enough chocolate to get me through and the warm drink cut my appetite. I tried to drink only 2 per day. Good luck to you.

What's really going on here is probably your nerves over upcoming wedding. Write down your "pits" and your "positives" regarding the big day and you may find you have more control.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE chocolate!! :) I certainly don't eat it everyday, but I HAVE to have it during my TOM. I eat a few Hersey kisses or M&M's and give the rest to my boys. My youngest calls them purcy kisses. :biggrin1: I also keep Sugar Free Chocolate pudding or sugar free mint chocolate chip ice cream and suck on the chocolate pieces. That does the trick for me. There are also times I convince myself that my chocolate Viactiv is a treat b/c it is very sweet.

Try freezing 4 oz portions of fat-free, sugar-free puddings (60 cals). Freezing them makes them taste like creamy ice-cream and it takes a while to eat it when it's frozen. Get all the chocolate candy bars out of the house STAT. They are pure liquid fat calories and a lot of them.

Thanks everyone, I will give all of the suggestions a try. I know I am naughty...but I really want myself out of this rut. I had this idea in my head that because I was losing weight I was healthier, but how healthy can I be eating chocolate as my meals. I went shopping and stocked up on healthy food and am going back to basics, like in the beginning.

Heather - Of course I will post pics, I am so excited, yet so nervous...

Hugs

Elisabeth, you are so baaaaad. Who wouldve thought about this one. Im on my way to the store - Ive GOT to try this!

Kelly, I share your choco-love! I dont even fight it - I just give in to the little brown demons.

I cant drink alcohol.

I dont do drugs.

Cakes get stuck in my hole.

So all I have is my m&m's. :nervous

btw: my mom is a diabetic. When she has a sweet-fit, she'll show self control by eating some s/f chocolates made by Russell Stover. Eat too many and you'll die from gas pains. I guess its a type of negative reinforcement for eating too much of it. It does helps with the chocolate fix tho!

Good luck

When i did the Atkins diet i got the same craving for chocolate, i remember reading somewhere that caffeine reinforces cravings, so i cut out cofee and found it much easier to control, i remember chewing on a jaffa cake once without swallowing it and spitting the mush in the bin :), also, Thorntons have a range of diabetic chocolate which is very rich, im not sure what calorific content it has but no carbs, if you have too much it gives you the splats

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
