What to do after PBing...

Recommended Posts

Hi Poodles,

I haven't had to many PB's but yy experience with those I have had is that I am not hungry for several hours. My Dr. told me to do liquids after a PB for the rest of the day. Hope this helps.

I hate to sound like a new newbie..but what is PB??? I've seen it in the posts..but just can't figure it out!!

A PB is a power belch. It is the pouch emptying in a vomit like fashion. When the stoma is blocked or plugged things cannot go down, if they can't go down then they come up. PB's are also accompanied by the slimes which is your body producing large amounts of saliva to try to pass whatever it is you swallowed through the stoma.

PB = productive burp

It's when your food comes back up, looking very similar to the way it went down, so it's not quite as gross as vomiting. Unfortunately, PBing is usually preceded by sliming, which for me is the worse of the two

Liquids suck... but guess I need to do them. I pb'd on two things yesterday and now I am so sore I can not even get in a bite or two of refried Beans. Thanks for the advice. I may do liquids for the next day or so, since I am a tad bit too restricted as is...

Thank you everyone....so, my other question is...is it common to happen all the time? Does it happen more often after you get filled? Happen if you eat/drink too much?

I was directed to go back to fluids until it was no longer sore or painful to swallow and then do a day of soft foods before going back to solids.

Trust me take it from someone who knows, do liquids for 24-48 hours after a PB, I made the mistake of not doing this and I got the worst case of esophagitis, which forced me to be on liquids for weeks. Weight loss was great but the pain was horrible...

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
