So I finally did it. Upchucked. 5 weeks out and havent thrown up anything. Was it off of cupcakes or pizza? Noooooooo it was coffee! I stop to have a sugar free cappachino on my way to work sometimes and that goes down fine. Today at work I thought "what the heck could the difference be?" So I made a freshly brewed cup. 1 slow sip....fine......2 slow sips....fine.......3 slow sips.....Uh oh

Beware of the coffe warnings folks! It really cant be tolerated post op!

I guess it's different for each of us. I drink one cup every morning with no problems. Don't need benefiber or other laxatives and it doesn't bother my tummy. :) Sorry you can't do it.

Sorry sis, I tolerate coffee just fine. Could it have been the Creamer you put in it?

I'm still pre op but definitely addicted to coffee. I am sorry you went through this and I hope it doesn't happen again! But at least you know ur limitations.

I am not sure I want to continue dripping coffee after surgery. I told myself that during the pre op diet I was going to ween myself off.... Since I absolutely hate up chucking I think I will stick to that plan!

Feel better soon

No problems here with coffee although I did stay off it for the first 8 weeks post op. Now I have at least one cup (more often more than that) a day.

Thank God I hate coffee. I don't have to worry about up chucking from coffee. ;)

I drink 16 oz of coffee everyday with no problems. I use Splenda and 1% milk. No probs! Sometimes I use my vanilla Protein Powder as creamer. Sorry it doesn't agree with you.

I haven't really tried coffee yet. I did have a sip of my husband's this morning and no problems. Sorry you had issues. Maybe it's just a one time thing (I hope!).

Just weird since I can tolerate the sugar free cappachino. Im sure that contains caffine. Its delicious so I guess Ill just stick with that or Decaf Folders

I would wait a few days and give it a try again. I'm a morning only coffee drinker and try to limit myself to 2-3 cups. I tolerate coffee just fine and the 20-30 oz of coffee really help me to get my daily fluids in. I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

I have to be soooo careful with coffee...I just get lost and start gulping.

I tried my first cup of coffee this morning. I was sipping on my husband's cup, actually and he's prepared it the same way for years. The funny thing for me is that it tasted so weird. I didn't get sick from it, but if I want to pursue having a cup then I think I need to go back to the drawing board and figure out a new way (taste) so I can enjoy it. Luckily, I'm not addicted to it at all. I just enjoy a cup in the mornings and miss the ritual more than the coffee.

I waited until 4 weeks out, but added coffee back in with no issues. I have a cup each morning. It makes me easier to live with at work, and it keeps me regular (sorry if tmi, but it works!)

I'm having my surgery on August 20, so I have a bit of time. I love my keurig. I drink about 2 cups each morning, skim milk no sugar. Lately, I've been putting a cup of black coffee in the fridge the night before, then mixing it with my morning Protein Shake. Tastes like a Starbucks fancy, expensive drink!! I might switch to Decaf in July.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
