Well, my hubby bought me a big bottle of diet coke today. I am just under two months away from surgery, and I've decided that when it's gone, it will be my last. Ive done it once before, it wasnt too hard, but I cetainly do enjoy it, but its a necessary part of this journey. Please, give me some ideas of what I should drink (other than water) to help quench those cravings

This is something you can totally do with no problem IF you do it in stages. I was a HUGE diet coke nut and it made me sad to know that I wouldn't be able to enjoy that crisp bite of a newly popped can on a hot day so I approached it in stages. Instead of dropping it all at once, start by ordering Water instead when you eat out. Before long you'll notice that you are not odering a diet coke on auto pilot everytime you go out. Next, switch to the caffeine free kind and only drink that at home. Just doing those 2 things will have lessened your dependence on it as you get closer to the day of your surgery and then you can quit altogether. I ordered a diet coke at my "Last Hurrah Meal'' and I had gotten so used to not having it that it didn't taste right anymore so I didn't finish it. I am now 3 days post-op and the thought of all those bubbles gurgling painfully in my new tummy is enough to deter me for the long run...lol Take it slow and you'll be just fine. :)

Can totally relate here... My surgery is next month and last month I was a pure coke and Dr.pepper drinker. That was my caffeine. So I started drinking diet anything. Then a few weeks of that, I started drinking less and less of any soda at all and now I just drink wait her special k Protein Water or plain water. Milk here and there and of course the Protein Shakes. Frosty chocolate to be exact. But since cutting out soda, it has helped me lose some pre surgery pounds. You can do it. You just have to tell yourself how serious you are about this new lifestyle and stay determined.

I love propel zero and Powerade zero, once you break the caffeine habit, these two will be lifesavers, especially through your preop diet.. BLESS, SUCCESS, and Good Lukk. don't forget - anybody can do it, if LukkiDuzIt.

I agree that you can try to do it in stages. Soda is delicious but it's also absolutely horrible for you. I drink it in moderation nowadays but gave it up for a while preop and couldn't tolerate it for a while post op. Switch to something else that works for you. I never really cared for Water but now it's the only thing that quenches my thirst. I use those MIO drops and just two or three of them in a 16 oz. glass is enough for me. I hope you find a solution, and congrats to you for trying to break this habit prior to surgery.

Well from a sleeved perspective. Enjoy that last bottle. Hell drink one for me. After u get sleeved your worlds gonna change in an instant. I can tell you from this side of the fence I have no cravings for anything. I did however enjoy my last days leading up to my 2week preop diet. Then I starved for 12 days then DDay hit and now food sux. I dunno. I just dont like food anymore. I must have a pshycological issue like "Fat guy anorexia" or something. It might be a new classification.

Just dont beat yourself up about it is all I am trying to say

Man, I was a diet coke (coke zero to be exact) addict! I would drink about 6 cans a day, plus about 3-4 mugs of caffeinated coffee!

But then I had tonsillectomy & uvullectomy on March 14th & had to stop caffeine for that. Well haven't gone back to it & so proud of myself! I just drink pure Water now, occasional milk, but really just Water & it tastes good!

So just to let you know you can do it & water will taste good to you one day!

I know of people who have had diet soda after WLS for Sleeve patients - and it's made them crave sweets and derailed them a bit. I would say to stay away!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
