It took me 10 years to make the decision to have surgery. I went to more info sessions than I knew what to do with. I wish I had been emotionally prepared at 18 to do this instead of having to wait until almost 28- but I'm so glad I waited because looking back I know I wasn't ready to make the commitment back then. Hell, I struggle every single day with the commitment now- but in two short months I've lost 41lbs- that's not something I ever could have done on my own.

You've got to do what's right for you right now. Maybe later on VSG will be the right choice, or maybe something else will come along and that will be the right choice- either way be happy <3

Better, I've had moments exactly like that - I guess for me, the voice in MY head isn't my own - it's the voice of ALL of the ladies and gentlemen who are older on this forum, in their 50s or 60s, who are having the surgery now, saying they sooo wish they'd done it 10 years ago. I am 42, not THAT over weight (obese but not morbid obese and need to lose about 60-70 lbs) and am PERFECTLY HEALTHY. It is very very hard to get my head around the fact that I am CHOOSING to remove over half of my stomach. What keeps me going at this point is "listening to my elders": I'm not sick yet. But in 10 years? I could very possibly have diabetes or high blood pressure or any of those things. For me, this is pre-emptive so that I can hopefully keep this weight off and NOT develop the diseases I watched my other obese family members develop as they aged.

Someone said it perfectly on here: ever seen an overweight, old, healthy person? Nope.

Take your time with this as it's a life changing decision for sure! But know that you are not alone and others feel the same way. I decided a few weeks ago that I was NOT having sx either, went to the store to stock up for Atkins (AGAIN) and broke down, knowing in my heart I'd been there too many times and would fail at dieting again.

So postpone and make sure and when you're ready, you'll do whatever you decide is best for you!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
