How Do You Eat Enough Protein Without Drinking It In A Shake?

Recommended Posts

I know I can get enough Protein drinking in shake form, but am not sure how to get it in 3 to five small meals a day. I remember when I was pregnant with twins and purchased a book, "Having Twins." After we got over a good laugh of incredulity over the mass of the woman's stomach, (of course I would never get that big.. wrong!) we began to read about food requirements to have healthy babies. Protein, protein, protein! (I seem to remember between 70 and 80 grams of protein a day for good brain stem development.) We started counting protein grams, and I was so sick I just couldn't eat enough protein. Finally we came up with the "noxious drink," a combination of soy powder, cottage cheese, raw eggs, (no, we didn't know about salmonella 29 years ago,) and some fruit for flavor. It took me all day of sipping it, but I did manage to get the protein in. Thank heavens there are Protein Shakes now, but back to my original question. How do I EAT enough protein? What will give me those grams of protein?

Here's a typical day in Protein for me:

Wake-up: Soy Latte, 8 grams Protein

Breakfast: 1 cup greek yogurt, 1 .slice whole grain toast: 26 grams protein

Lunch: 2 oz. light salami, Baby Bel light cheese: 20 grams protein

Dinner: 3 oz. of fish, chicken, pork, or beef: 21 grams protein

That gets me to 75 grams of protein.

Before I could eat so much at one sitting, I had a mid-afternoon snack of light cheese or lunch meat and sometimes an after dinner cup of soy milk to get more protein in.

I'm struggling with this as well; however I'm still sticking to my Cytomax Pure Protein/Performance drinks. 20 oz drinks with 40 g of whey isolate Protein in them. If you incorp two in your day that's an easy 80g and it counts as 40 oz of your Water. Now it's just getting that much into me in the course of a day.....sigh.....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
