Hi all- I was sleeved on Tuesday (4/3) and am due to go in Monday (4/9) for post op check up and removal of the drain. Can someone tell me what to expect with that procedure...they've advised me to take a pain killer as it's 'rather intense'. What I am wondering also is do you feel relief after it's out...it's really just plain uncomfortable.

i had mine removed on day 2... It's not painful, but it IS intense. however it is over VERY quickly. you'll be fine, narcotics wont help you.

I just got my drain pulled Tuesday. It's not bad at all just take a deep breath in let then pull it then out... It was uncomfortable but u will feel better once it's out.

Thank you for the responses....maybe I'll just do tylenol instead of the hydrocodone (hate the way it makes me feel). Amy

I didn't take anything to get my drain out I had it in for 3 days and they just pulled it out a little on every exhale I just focused on breathing and didn't feel a thing. It was releving when it was out tho sorta like how your skin feels after ripping a bandaid off.

I had mine out the day after surgery before I went home. He ( he was a hottie by the way...lol!) told me to take in a deep breath slowly and he pulled it out. It did feel weird, didnt hurt at all, hard to explain, just felt like he was moving the insides around a bit while pulling it out. It only took him 5 seconds.

Hi. Im confused. I've never heard anything about a drain. I was sleeved on 3/27. Are there different sleeve procedures?

My drain was removed on day 2 and it did not hurt at all...If you go to my gallery you will see a photo of drain in and drain out.

I did however, feel so much better after the removal of the drain. But in no way did it hurt...felt a little like going down a hill to fast maybe...LOL

I had mine taken out on Wednesday morning after having surgery on a Monday. I would not say that you need a pain pill. It was more of a sharp pain and then it was gone. It takes just a few seconds for them to take it out. Think that it is more scary than it was painful.

Let me give you some words of wisdom. No matter what keep breathing. It takes less than 30 seconds to pull out and doesn't hurt it's just a funny feeling that took me by surprise and I held my breath for a second. Threw the doc off And he said dang it breath out haha. I took a loratab before I came becuse I wasn't sure how it would feel, I don't regret it cause I went home And slept for 12 hours, more than I had slept in a week! It's hard to sleep with that dang drain.

I agree with many of the AP... it really doesn't hurt. What "hurts" more is when they tell you "okay, take a deep breath" The anticipation is like Killer!! So, I did, and then after 5 seconds I said "I'm ready - please hurry", and the nurse said "I'm finished"... I was thinking then why the heck did you tell me to take a deep breath, when it was over by the time I blinked my eyes??? LOL...

Trust me - I'm a baby - I don't do pain well - and it was a piece of cake.............. ummmmm, cake :wub:

How are you feeling and doing?? I hope all went well on surgery day. Like others have said the drain removal isnt too bad and whatever pain you might feel doesn't last long. Just take a deep breath and its over before you know it. The PAs have had so much practice taking them out, their good at it. Have a Happy Easter..

Hello again all.

Well had the drain removed this morning...GLAD I had a lortab in me. My experience was pretty intense-painful. But very happy it's out. I"m kind of wiped out tonight between the drive and the 'event'. Had a meeting with the nutritionist basically keeping me on liquids until next week then into the puree's for a week, then soft foods. I'm sure I'll be back for advice on those changes.

Lisa-thank you for asking about me....yes, surgery went very well and I was home the next evening. The post surgery pain mainly focused on the shoulders/chest from the gas they pump in and that stupid drain.

Tomorrow I expect I'll feel better/less whipped. BUT--I'm down a few pounds already which was great to see.

I had my drain removed on my first post op visit 7 days after my surgery. I didn't even know he removed it until he held it up and showed it to me!
