I am scheduled for the 16th too. I keep wavering between anticipation and fear. To be honest, I am still conflicted about going forward. This is elective surgery and I feel like I might be taking an uneccesary risk. I have never struggled with a decision so much in my life.

I am also the 16th. I had my scope done this past Friday. Turns out I have ulcers and a small hiatal hernia. Surgeon also took a biopsy to test for H-pylori, but the results of that are not yet in. I asked if he found anything would it delay the surgery. He told me no, because there was still time to do medication. He did start me on 40 mg. of Prilosec and told me I would probably be on it for up to a year following the surgery. He said the ulcers were not "deep" that they were surface ulcers, so not really bad. I did get the pictures from my scan. Kind of neat, but yucky at the same time. LOL

Today I started full liquids and will be on them from here on out. I truly don't have to start this until the 11th, but I did have a bit of a food funeral these past couple of days. Nothing really bad. I grilled a steak one night and last night I had some Pasta and some popcorn. That is the extent of it, but it is enough to make we want to get back on track a bit early and get things pointed in the right direction.

I also have some fear about the surgery. Just like you cml, this is all voluntary. I am a single mom, so I keep thinking am I being selfish by taking this risk? I have talked to my kids about it and they both are ok with my decision. I have a health care directive in place as well as a will. My oldest daughter is 22 and my youngest is 14. I just keep telling myself that it is going to be ok. I will follow what they doctors tell me for my pre and post operative diet, Vitamins, not lifting anything too heavy, etc. and that is the best that I can do. Getting my health back I also feel is important for my family, so it is a catch 22.

I have tried to diet on my own. Just a year and a half ago I lost 50 pounds, but I have since gained 33 of it back. I know I need this tool, so here I am with the same feelings that you have cml, but I am going to stay positive and know that I have a good surgeon, a plan for my children, and move forward.

So.... Here is to all the April Sleevers (and to all those who have gone before us) and to those of us who are scheduled on April 16! Best of luck to all of us. We will do fine!!!

I'm not really nervous..... at least not yet... I am more anxious than anything. So much of this is mental and I have have always tried to be upbeat and positive about everything in my life and this is no different. This will be my first major surgery so I have mentally prepared myself that there will be pain, some nausea probably,etc..... I trust my surgeon 1000000%!! I have no other health problems, no kids and I work from home so I am just hoping that I am one of the folks that bounces back rather quickly.

Best of luck to all of us!!! 6 more days!!! YAY!!

Agree! Just finished with my dietician. It is approaching now and getting closer!!! I am excited but i am getting nervous now. I am just going to try not to think about it too much. Even though last night i already started having dreams about it...i just want the surgery to be over with. I want it to be June now!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
