Ok so I'm two weeks post op tomorrow, and I put myself on Mushies yesterday...a few days early. I can't get more than 1 1/2 to 2 Protein Shakes in. It the little tuna and yogurt really helped. I feel fine and am down 15 lbs. would I feel guilty amend scared ?

Our doctors give us specific guidelines to help protect our new sleeves. I would not progress to the next stage without talking to the doctor first. You definitely do not want to cause a leak in your healing sleeve, or make it work so hard that it causes you pain trying to digest something that your sleeve is not ready to handle. Of course, various surgeons have varying diet plans for post op patients. I just tried to do what MY surgeon and nut recommended.

I was cleared for mushies at day 12, because I had not lost since day 4 and I had zero energy. I felt sooooo much better after some eggs and oatmeal. I think a couple days isn't going to kill you, since some people are on mushies to start,. just watch your volume.

I always recommend talking to your doctor about making changes to your plan. That said, I was on full liquids when I came home, and my "full liquids" plan included some soft foods like cheese sticks, cottage cheese, etc.

I've been allowed mushies since day 3. I still don't really have the volume for them and am mostly sticking to fluids until I can reach something remotely close to my desired Protein intake. The best advice is always to follow the program that your surgeon gave you. That being said, lots of us eating mushies early on are doing just fine.

How are you doing now? I was on Clear Liquids for a week after surgery and he wants me on full liquids (which is clear liquids plus my Protein shakes). I get moved to soft foods next Thursday, but I too have been trying some mushies. I have eaten some chicken Soup, green Beans, tuna salad, and other soft foods. If the food isnt soft i make sure I chew it up really REALLY good! I feel bad mentally for doing that, but physically I do feel better to actually feel a little bit normal. :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
