Has anyone been sleeved by Dr. Blaine Neese out of Huntington West Virginia? He is doing my surgery. He comes over to the VA hospital on Thursdays to do surgeries. I just feel funny because I have never met the man that's gonna be responsible for changing my life. I met the VA surgeon that will be assisting him. I'm on the countdown with 19 days before the big day. I was so excited and now I'm scared and on the verge of changing my mind. My only sister can't go with me now because she just had major surgery on Thursday! Can I really do this by myself? Please help, especially post sleevers that have gone through surgery. Freaking out in North Carolina!

Dr. Nease is amazing! He is doing my surgery in Huntington on the 25th. He was taught by the man who pioneered laparoscopic gastric bypass, and who was also the doctor who performed Carnie Wilson's surgery online. You are in good hands. People come from all over the country to have him perform their surgery.

I forgot to add that Dr. Nease truly cares because his own father died from obesity related illnesses. He is a really nice guy!

Dr. Beast is a great surgeon! My surgery was on Thursday and he made me and my sister feel very comfortable and had me laughing up until I went out. He repaired a hernia while he was doing my surgery. My blood pressure has been up and down and my temperature. I did get released today, but experiencing lots of gas right now. But overall I don't have any regrets and I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon!

That's great news! Keep us posted on your progress glad everything went smoothly for you. Some days I am absolutely positively sure of my decision others I am not. Guess that is pretty normal for an elective surgery.

Yes!! Dr. Nease is my surgeon, too and I was sleeved 4 weeks ago today. Best thing I've ever done, no regrets whatsoever!! And it doesn't hurt that he is nice to look at with a great personality and awesome bedside manner!! He is also very thorough!! You are in good hands! I'm from Huntington and would be glad to come and sit with you if you'd like. I could be at the VA in 10 minutes from my house. Let me know!!

I had codeine in me when I was typing, I meant Dr. Nease. My catheter was removed Friday night, and the drain tube was removed this morning. I have to give myself a blood thinner needle in the stomach once a day for ten days. I'm on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks, full liquids the next 2 weeks, pureed foods the next 2 weeks, and then soft foods. I have to take in 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces Water a day. I have to report my weight to dietitian once a week. I have to get staples removed in 10 days and I go back to west Virginia in 6 weeks. As of today I have gained 6 pounds, but my monthly came on Saturday.

I had to add that Dr. Nease is a very good looking surgeon. When he walked in I didn't recognize him. He looked nothing like the pic on his website. Very nice, mannerisms, thorough and knowledgeable! My sister and my niece was very impressed. My sister was hoping to see him today when I was being discharged. I would highly recommend Dr. Nease!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
