Does anyone remember hearing something about nuts being a no-no food? I feel like I may have heard something about it in my pre-op info session, but as I sit here eating a handful of Emerald Sweet & Salty dark chocolate Peanut Butter mixed nuts, I can't for the life of me remember what it was...

Anybody?

i think it was because of bowl blockage. It was nuts, eggplant and popcorn. well from my NUT anyway.

Bowel blockage huh? Hmm... So then it could explain Constipation?

Nuts were one of my staple foods pre-op. I have tried them several times at different points in the past 8 months. Each time the result has been the same. My sleeve does not like them. It hurts. The stomach acts as the mechanical part of digestion and for me, I don't think my stomach can break down nuts well enough. I'm sure if I chewed them more I could handle it, but for me, chewing nuts down to a butter consistancy is gross. Can't do it. I like and can eat peanut and sunflower butter, though.

I been eating nuts since 2 months post op and I chew them well,so far is the only thing that has been working for my Constipation :) YES I make my own trail mix with almonds and organic raisins and I eat 1/4 cup a day and it gives the energy I need to go for runs, walks or the gym =) Not everybody tolerates them well after surgery. Almonds are my favorites. I do a little Peanut Butter as well here and there but I limited myself to the serving size 2 tsp. They are a great source of Protein and healthy fats as well as Fiber but is small quantities ,for what I read,is also good to gain a couple pounds if you eat a lot. I love me some nuts lol

I eat a few almonds every day. Like everything, I chew the heck out of them. Like I said on some other board: there is nothing that my sleeve won't happily take. I just cannot eat dense Protein too fast.

I was told not to try them or popcorn until after 10 or 12 months, can't remember why though!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
