Does anyone have a scale addiction?

Recommended Posts

I don't own any scales but I'll have to buy some.

I think that's how I became obese in the first place.....denial.....because I didn't weigh myself I didn't know how big I had become.

I saw a TV programme the other night about a woman who had emergency surgery, when she arrived at the hospital they asked her how much she weighed....she replied she hadn't weighed herself in a couple of years but she thought she was around 300-350lbs....the nurse looked at her and said "I think we'd better weigh you". She was too heavy for the regular scales so they had to bring up scales from the basement......she weighed 586lbs.....talk about denial.

I own a fine dining restaurant and a small lady's gym like Curves. I preached for years to anyone who asked me for dieting advice or to the ladies at the gym that you never weigh yourself more than once a week.

But.......since I was banded in June I can't stay off the scales! I am going against my own advice. I weigh myself once a day.....just like another post said....to make sure that my consistant loss is real. I am enjoying this constant loss so much that I can't wait to see the scales the next morning. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh......don't tell anybody!

I am guilty too...I weigh at least twice a day. In the morning with an empty bladder and before i go to bed. I usually weigh less in the morning but lately that hasn't been the case. I feel I need to keep close track of my weight b/c in the past not weighing myself is what caused my obesity to spiral out of control. I was in denial I was gaining...

I am the complete opposite as I don't weigh at all. I find out my weight when I go in for my fills. I will probably start weighing myself 1 time per week in the morning before work. Goodluck to everyone with your weight loss journey.

Before I got banded, I resolved to weigh myself once a month. In the past, I have weighed myself daily and if I didn't lose or if I (gasp!) gained, I would be so depressed I'd binge. I was terrified that it would happen again, so I didn't want to weigh myself too often and get obsessed.

But then I got my band - and started weighing myself every day. It was addictive, because every single day, the number was lower than the day before. It was so thrilling to see the weight coming off so steadily. It gave me confidence that I am going to succeed in this.

As the honeymoon phase came to an end, and the weight loss slowed down, I decided to weigh myself weekly, so I wouldn't be disappointed by not losing every single day. I have since learned my lesson. Now that I couldn't binge even if I wanted to, the scale has become a valuable tool for me. One of the reasons why I weighed 266 pounds is because I stopped paying attention to my weight and the poundage just kept creeping up and up. I'm never going to be "surprised" like that again, so not weighing myself isn't an option. Also, weighing myself weekly built up so much anticipation, that if I didn't lose weight, or lost a tiny amount like 0.2 lbs, I would be really disappointed and feel like all of my hard work was for nothing - which lead to skipping exercise and eating junk food for the next couple of days. Now I weigh myself in the mornings, when I've got too much restriction to drown my sorrows in vast quantities of food.

Weighing myself daily rather than weekly keeps me from convincing myself it's ok to eat an entire box of graham crackers on Monday because I can diet for the rest of the week and still lose weight by Sunday's weigh-in. Monday always lead to Tuesday which lead to Wednesday, and then I'd have to fast for the rest of the week, which I could never pull off. Now, if I eat too much on one day, I see it on the scale and correct it the very next day. The cause and effect relationship between eating and weight gain is much clearer to me now. In a strange way, I find the daily fluctuations in my weight sort of comforting. Given the way I'm eating now, It is physically impossible for me to gain two pounds in one day. So if I'm 248 today and 250 tomorrow, I know that it's just a normal fluctuation and not actual weight gain.

I know that not only will I succeed, but even if I do gain some weight back after reaching goal, I will be able to catch myself before it goes too far and becomes 20, 50, or 100 pounds. It's a good thing.

Totally obsessed here!!! I weigh multiple times a day. Naked with an empty bladder...hmm, I just pooped, let's check again....before dinner...before bed...after exercising. I know it's crazy, but I keep hoping to see the scales move after being barely in Twoterville for so long.

My favorite trick (sorry if TMI) is to try to have a bm BEFORE I eat or drink anything: The Ultimate True Weight!!! LOL! Get the straight jacket!

I so totally agree with you on this point!

Hi, my name is ThreeLoves and I'm addicted to my scales. I can't help myself. I weigh in the morning, afternoon, & evening. Hey Marcy, we must be related. Can't deny I could use a straight jacket. So, why don't I always lose weight after a good poop? :Banane27: I usually lose after I get home from the gym....I attribute it to sweat.

I've been doing this for years now. Even b4 I got the band. I guess there are worse things I could be addicted to, right? I feel I'm in control more knowing what the scales say. It doesn't depress me, it makes me work harder. There have been times I've been discouraged, don't get me wrong. Most of the time it gives me strength.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
