Does anyone have a scale addiction?

Recommended Posts

I have a scale in my bathroom and in my kitchen. I weigh a few times a day and then some days not at all. That's my favorite because only then do I see the big drops.

The biggest scale change for me is I now get weighed when asked. When I used to go to the doctor, they would ask me to get on the scale and I would say, "No thanks!" They always looked puzzled and I would tell them, "I know I'm fat, I don't need to know how much."

Now I beg them to weigh me so I can see the difference in pounds. Weird how life changes, huh?

I weight myself every day. Yes, it can be addicting. I don't think it is a good idea but it puts me in touch with what I am eating as appose to just eating and waiting. The doctor doesn't want me to weigh as often so I'm not sure if its good or bad.

Count me in! I've been checking each morning. One one hand it helps keep me on track but on the other hand it keeps me obsessed. I think I'm going to force myself to go back to once a week for awhile.

I spent years not looking at a scale and now it's sitting out in my bathroom like a piece of furniture!

I'm a scale whore! All of the time. Can't get enough of it. :heh: :heh: :heh:

However, I keep a weekly spreadsheet and only record Monday morning's weight.

I have a emotional allergy . If my weight is up , Im depressed. If it is down Im happy. It really controls me. My doctor insists I weigh once a week. He even made a copy of it!! I hate how a number controls me.

I try not to , but I weigh every morning - DH said he was going to throw it away - but I think it does - it keeps you on track.

As I was gaining -before the surgery came into play - I had stopped weighing because it was too depressing. So - weighing when losing I think is ok. When I see I've lost I'm off to a great start for the day.

I ONLY weigh in the AM - Naked with an empty bladder of course!!

***sad I know - but you guys do that too, right?! ***crickets chirping *** Guys?

I strip down every morning after I first wake up and weigh. Unfortunately, the scale sometimes sets the tone for the day. Who am I kidding--it always sets the tone for the day. I also like to strip down and weigh after my husband leaves for work. Sometimes the scale actually goes down!

I'm afraid to weigh later in the day for fear fluids and food have added a few pounds. It's my very own version of "Weigh Down". It's so nice to weigh less than my 6' tall husband after years of weighing more than him, I love comparing notes over the scale!

I've started a little game with my scale where I actually try to guess the weight before I step on it. I was much more obsessed in the beginning 6 months with getting on multiple times during the day....now I usually only do it first thing - after I powder my nose and as I am getting ready for my shower. I am SO addicted to it!!!

Okay - so we're all obsessed with the actual act of weighing, but how many of you step on the scale 2 - 3 - even 4 times until it says what you want it to say???? I have a digital WW scale and I seem to have a habit of doing this. Once I get the same weight twice, I quit and take it for what it says.

Do you do this, too?

I have been addicted to scales and tape measures since the 70s. Even when I was gaining, I recorded. Everytime I lost weight, I checked how much inches compared to other times I was at that weight.

BTW - in 1975 when I weighed 108, I had a 23 inch waist and 21 inch thigh. Now, at 146 I have a 32 inch waist and 23 inch thigh. Not so thigh heavy these days.

When I moved to Africa, I threw all the records away - except post surgery documentation. I know my body changes as I age and its better to just accept it.

But I still love to weigh daily and measure weekly.

Of Course!!! Naked with empty bladder first thing in the morning is the only true precise weight!!!!!

And weighing at night before you go to bed lets you know how much you ate during the day...too much...too little....just right.

OH NO! :help: I haven't been measuring myself weekly! I haven't been measuring myself monthly! I only measured myself once on June 25th. I will never know where I started from!:(

My old funky scale did that...I would step on it several times until I got the same weight twice. My current scale has been dead on no matter how many times a step on it. I love my current scales!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
