How Are You One Week Post-Opers

Recommended Posts

Today I'm one week post-op. For the first time, my temperature was under 99 F. I drove myself to the post office and back, and didn't take any pain meds (yet, lol). I am steadily getting down fluids to stay hydrated but, TMI, the loose stools have shown up. I can deal with that slight annoyance since it should taper off with the mushies stage. The pain is decreasing day by day, but in lieu of pain comes weakness/tiredness.

Anyways, I really thought I'd be worse off at this point.

How are you doing 1 week post op!?

I'm still very sluggish but I'm on two weeks of Clear Liquids so my energy level is next to nil. I can't wait until I hit the full liquid/puree stage. I am very sick of clear liquids right now. My only problem so far is that one of my incisions did not close fully and I have a lot of Fluid draining from it. Besides that I'm doing fine.

I'm 5 days out and about the same. Exhausted, but I get full liquids in 2 days so hopefully that will help. I think I managed 35 calories a day average on clears. It's disheartening....

Hello!..I'm 4 days post op and I feel kinda weak and dizzy sometimes my chest feels weird. I'm having no pain just uncomfortable feels like someone punched me in my stomach. I can feel the things I eat drop into my stomach. I noticed everyones doctor starts them on stage 2 diet a week or more after surgery my doctor started me before I left the hospital I really haven't started because I feel it's too heavy but I have tried farina, 1 scrambled egg, mashed sweet potatoe, and greek yogurt seems like a lot but I can only intake about 3oz at a time. Even though I have my doctors ok I don't feel right being on stage 2.

I want to eat my arm at this point. Trying to take it one day at a time.

Hi, I am one week and one day post op. I have had a really easy time of it. No pain, able to drink easily so could get in all my Water and Protein. I was able to take medication from day one with no problems. In fact I was seriously wondering if they had actually done my op! The only thing that has changed is seeing, smelling and being around food doesn't bother me now. For that I am truly grateful. I am looking forward to being able to chew something though, I really miss that.

I am not quite one week out yet, 5 days, but I feel terrific. I have been doing G2, broth, Water, tea, diluted juices, crystal light and some sugar free popsicles. I haven't been getting in enough liquids, about 36 - 40 oz a day but I am trying! I don't feel too tired or sleepy. I just feel a little gassy still -- not all the time but just when I drink something.

I'm post op day 5 and have to constantly remind myself to drink! Does anyone else get that bubbly/growling feeling in their tummy whenever they eat? does it have to do with the temp or quantity of what I'm eating? Does it mean that I am full or starving? I don't like the way it makes me feel and that's another reason why I'm having trouble with getting all my liquids in.

All I really want to eat is comfort food like mac/cheese, cheese and crackers and Cereal :(

I'm 5 days out and feeling great! Still having trouble drinking enough---I just have no urge to put anything in my stomach. I know I need to work on that! I'm taking lots of naps and enjoying having this week off work. But I've been able to go out walking and run errands and all that good stuff :) I'm defineatly feeling better than I thought I would!

YES!!! What the heck is the gurgling?! And when does it go away? It isn't painful, but it's weird feeling! And I'm with you that I can't tell if it means I'm hungry or full.

Tomorrow makes me a full week out! :D I started full liquids as soon as I was released from the hospital. I have a JP drain and it is killing me. I suppose to have it removed tomorrow but, afraid that since it is still draining they may keep it in. How do I feel?? AWESOME! I am not getting fluids or Protein in right now, Maybe 24 oz a day. Love chicken broth. But, not feeling the shakes anymore. I can't even finish an entire one. I am able to walk over a mile and smile. I do have pain occasionally in my stomach but I think it is just my stomach missing the rest of itself.

:)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
