Hi

I haven't had the surgery yet but am scared to death. So any info you can give me about the surgery, the pain after, what to expect would be appreciated. I've actually read some horror stories on other sites. Did your surgeon tell you how you need to look out for leaks and things like that? Has your hunger gone away? Anything you can tell me would be great! :)

Hi girls, I had the procedure done 2/9 and I had no issues whatsoever. I think if you have the right mindset you will be fine. I really didnt even have a lot of pain, just mild, while I was in the hospital ( one day) I was tired more than anything when I got home. The only issue was trying to drink enough fluids, It was hard but I did it. Just think of the big picture and how much you are improving your health and all the "hard" times will just fly by and you will be rocking the sleeve! Best of luck to you both!

Hi Lisa! I was scared too but it all turned out well! I have been having some cramping since I have been home, spoke to the doc and he believes I may have developed an intolerance to lactose which would give me the cramps and the #2's. Before your surgery I would tell them if you have any issues with nausea or motion sickness...they will give u meds for it. I was glad I mentioned it to them because I was nauseous for a few days ( which is common with the sleeve) I was up and walking around the same day of my surgery. They will push you to walk around which is good as it gets things moving. As for the eating...I followed the pre op diet to a T and was a bit hungry but did what I was told. I even started it a little early to get used to the portions. Post op I am having a hard time drinking a half cup of milk with Protein....Sipping is important. Takes me about 30 mins to drink a half cup. I am not really hungry at all but kinda forcing myself to get my fluids in. Before the surgery I was thinking to myself how can anyone survive on this amount of food...but now being here I understand:) have you been scheduled yet?

Thank you for your story! I'm glad you are doing well. I know it will be worth it. :)

I actually just got started. Well... this go around. Back in 2008, I was all set to have the surgery but at the last minute my blood work came back that I was hyperthyroid. I had to cancel the surgery and have my thyroid killed off with radiation (ablated). Most people with this disease lose weight without even trying but NOT ME! LOL After the ablation, I gained another 50 pounds. I now am regulated on meds for this and my levels are good. So, I'm starting the journey again. I actually JUST got started. I know things will go quicker because I am a self pay because my insurance will not pay. I'm hoping everything goes quickly and I can have my surgery date in a few months.

Thanks again for the info. You guys are awesome here. So glad I found this forum!!

Hi there! Well I was in pain more than anything because of the gas the pump into you for the surgery! I had a hard time letting it out. Also I suffered from dry heaving wich was bad, but it was only the night of the surgery after that I was fine and haven't vomited since then. I had a mild complication, 3 of my wounds got infected but they started me on antibiotics and they are almost completly healed now (tomorrow I'll be 4 weeks). It's hard to get all your fluids in, I'm still having a hard time with that. And as far a hunger goes, DON'T EVEN WORRY ABOUT IT! I think I've only felt hunger 2 and it has been recent yesterday and 2 days ago! It's like my body is telling me that is ready for the next stage on the diet! But even when you're hungry it only takes 3 or 4 oz of broth or even juice your super full!!!

My doctor is requiring me to use the seasickness patch before surgery to stave of nausea. That put my mind to rest on that fact. I still find myself asking why am I doing this. Then I go check my blood sugar and there is the reason. I am still scared like crazy but I want to see the other side of my life.

I also used the patch, it was placed behind my ear. I also needed it added to my IV drip :( do not touch the patch and rub your eyes...it will dialate them like you are at the eye doctor :) I am very much looking forward to finding my old body again too!

Scopolamine Patches will dilate your eyes anyway, especially on the side the patch is placed on. I use them to relax on long plane flights and it always looks funny the next day with one pupil dilated huge!

I'm being sleeved on April 9th. I'm new here, too. It's good to find people who are having their surgery around the same time as I am. What's the best way to keep up with each other's progress? Is there a calendar where you can see who is being sleeved on what date?

That's a great tip about the seasick Patches...I hadn't heard of that before. I'm going to ask my surgeon about it.

Question for those of you who are a week or two after surgery already: What does a typical day look like for you as far as food, Vitamins, and Protein supplements?

Thanks!!!

I was sleeved on the 16th and yes there is a calender that shows up coming surgery. Oh the gas pain was the worst, thought I was having heart failure or something it hurt so bad.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
