Headed To Mx On Thursday, 3/22!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited/nervous/scared!! I'm headed out Thursday morning to fly to San Diego. From there, I go straight to INT Hospital for surgery later that same day. I'm seeing Dr. Rodriguez through Belite. I am 33, starting weight 267, though down to 258 on pre op diet..... Goal is 150. I'll update when I have more to tell! I'm hoping my experience in Tjuanna is as good as the many I have read. I'm traveling alone, so the most disturbing thing about all of this is dealing with the airport. I hate crowds and flying...

You will be fabulous!! If you feel weak coming back, don't hesitate to ask the airline for wheelchair service! You won't be as bumped and you won't feel weak and overheated getting through the airport.

Great point about wheelchair... I may just do that. I just saw your post too! Good luck and yay for both of us!

You will definately want to have a wheeelchair on your return home. Your incisions will still be tender and that much walking quickly may tiered you out. I also suggest check your bag on the way home....you don't want to be lifting that much weight above your head after surgery.....

I have never been clostraphobic before....but on the plane home it was so full, I was by the window and I got a back/side pain...and could barely breathe.

Also on your return trip home if you bring with you a Water bottle, and tell the security it is for medical purposes and that you just had surgery, they will test the Water but allow you to board with it...I brought a Vitamin water....with no troubles...(something the airlines don't promote).

On the way home leave all stress to the airlines...they will take care of you, some of those gates can be way far apart.

Good Luck, and welcome to the losers bench!

I'm thinking that the wheelchair is for sure a go. I'm packing so light, it's not going to be an issue. Bare bones minimum, clotghes to wear home, and one set of PJs. My Kindle and my phone, and their s=chargers. I didn't want to have to deal with a bunch of stuff. I also got aisle seats for the ride home so hopefully that will help.

Good Luck! You will do great. I really liked what I saw of Tijuana and want to go back to do some more shopping! San Diego airport is really nice and low key. Its not huge so there's not a lot of walking. I felt fine and had no need for a wheelchair. You can ask for one at the outdoor baggage check when you get there if you feel you need one. Also, once you get thru security there are some little stores where you can buy I drink. I bought a Minute Maid apple juice and sipped it all the way home. I can't wait to hear your update:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
