Just wanted to say hello to all. I am new to this. I just had my verticle sleeve surgery on Friday, March 16, 2012 performed by Dr. Strom at Bayshore Hospital in NJ. I am 3 day out and still very sore. I think I made the right choice in getting this surgery. I have struggled with my weight for all my life and decided it was time to take charge of it. Not everyone agreed with my decision, but I told them all, that it's easy for them to say things and pass judgement, when you haven't been where I am, and that it's my life, and I have to live it by what's best for me. So I just wanted to say hello to everyone, and thank everyone for sharing their stories. It really does help.

Congratulations on your new sleeve. I know that you are feeling it right now but each and every day you will feel better and soon you will be asking yourself why you waited so long to have this done. I know that if I knew that I could have this much happiness years ago I would have done it then. I did try many years ago and the doctors said that I did not need surgery that I could do it with diet and exercise. I tried that for so many years that I lost and gained myself over and over again. Best of luck on your new life.

It's too easy for other people to make uninformed decisions about what we do with our lives. Stick to your guns, Honeybear, and be assured you are taking control of your life in a very positive way. Many of us choose not to tell others about our surgeries for reasons much the same as yours. There are many differing opinions about that, too, and I hope I didn't open a can of worms by saying it. Don't let anyone rain on your parade! Best wishes for a great recovery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
