1200-1500 Calories...really?

so I had my 2 week post op on Saturday and according to him I have lost 10 lbs...although I know it is more like 18 lbs...but i was fully clothed and wearing heavy shoes...so i like my scale more. So as we are talking about what he expects and everything he tells me he wants me to eat between 1200 and 1500 calories..I was flabbergasted...I even told him...that sounds like A LOT! I don't know if I can do that. So I started using the my fitness pal app and staarted tracking...so far i haven't hit the 1200 goal...but I keep getting closer..Can i really lose all the weight that I need to eating so many calories?

Yeah, that is a lot... I only average about 900-1100 calories.. eating all day!!!...

I am 3 mos out and I eat between 700-900 calories a day. I feel like that's too much. My nut said 600.

I eat around 700 calories a day also. That does sound like a lot. I have to eat Nutella and Peanut Butter by the tablespoonful to hit that.

Seriously, at two weeks I was struggling to eat 2 oz. at a time.

@ 5.5 months post off, I struggle with getting 900 on most days. Let us know if it speeds your weight loss up. I'm so afraid of gaining weight if I eat that much. LOL ;)

I am 4 weeks post op and my surgeon just told me that my weight lose is a little slow because I wasn't eating enough calories. He wants me to eat at least 1000 calories a day. He said my goal is 1000 to 1200 per day and at least 30 minutes of walking.

I am 7 months out and I eat around 800 a day now.. When I was where you are, I could barely eat 500 calories a day.. There is no way in the world I would "try" to up my calories... the whole point of the surgery was for restriction. Why try to cram all that food in there? It will naturally increase as the swelling goes down. I dont think we need to have a calorie goal to hit. My surgeon didnt give me one. He said eat Protein first and only if you can hold more, eat a little veggies. His main rule was STOP when you are full even if you only eat a couple of bites. Do not overeat your sleeve... it defeats the purpose. You are not gonna lose what you want to if you eat that many calories, especially early out. Please dont do that to yourself. Just my two cents.

that is what I thought...but he told me that the reason I am not losing hardly is because my body has decided that i am starving it...I am going to shoot for the 1200 each day this week and see what my scale says at the end of the week...If i show a decent loss then i will stick with it...if I show no loss then I will be going back down to a lower caloric intake goal. so far today I have had eggs with cheese, a sugar free Jello, more eggs with cheese, tea, water..so I am NO WHERE close to 1200 calories, but I am having taco meat with cheese and a dollop of sour cream tonight for dinner...no shell or tortilla.. but should still be tasty...which it will still put me below 1200 calories but only by about 300

Wow - I'm in my third week post-op and can't even imagine eating 1,200 calories a day - at the moment I'm not managing more than around 400 calories which I know is too little, but just can't do more. Are you actually managing to eat a whole egg per meal?

yup, i have 12- 1300 calories daily. . . but then i'm out 3 years. . i'm maintaining beautifully, not gaining at all, not losing either mind you. . . but he doesn't want me to lose more. I did go 12 lbs under my goal weight. . . so i'm good. . . but for you being out only 2 weeks that is alot of calories. . 600- 900 calories is good if that. . . good luck! don't eat too little, cause that will stop your weight loss in it's tracks. . .

This was me... I could not eat more than 300 or 400 calories in a day when I was just going on solids. It took me months to get to 500 and I am just now at 800 at 7 months out! If i eat solid Protein only, I cant eat that much. I hear a lot about the starvation mode, etc. but so far its been working for me. My metabolism is so slow that if I ate that much, I would gain for sure. At least thats what happened on Weight Watchers.

I've been reading about starvation mode, and what I found out is that we don't go into starvation mode until our body fat is below a certain percentage. I believe it was 5%. So is all the other info we hear about hype? What do you guys think? ;)

I'm seven weeks out and shoot for 700 but it's very rare I make it beyond 500. No way I could do those numbers.

I'm over 2.5 years out, and I eat that to maintain my weight loss. An increase up to 1700-1800 calories guarantees a gain, below 1200 and I lose again.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
